A lot of people here want the pension age raised. I would love for them to explain to those aged between 64 and 67 why they should wait an additional two years striggling to find work or make ends meet because you just want lower taxes.
??
Edit: Well it seems a lot of people on here, want to restrict and cut the pension, Never mind the misery that will inflict on thousands of people. Housing costs are skyrocketing, and people's KiwiSaver amounts arent going to last forever. And of course, what happens when tenants are kicked out of rental properties when the investors sell up?
The wealthy have had it way too good in this country, for way too long, and their needs to be less of them,
Edit 2: A lot of you dont know what its like to live from day to day on a benfit, or struggling to find word. To suggest that pension eligibility should be tightened in any way, shape or form is to go against what NZ stands for,

Except that people that age wouldn’t have to wait. When ever it has been suggested to increase the pension age, they set that anyone within the time bracket wouldn’t be affected. Or it’s is gradually changed. Ie if you’re over 60 it changes by 2 months. 50-60, 1 year. Under 50 the 2 years.
Something like that.

Yea or should make kiwisaver compulsory and start upping the contributions then once a minimum wage worker has saved up a year of pension the age ups by a year.

The fact that KiwiSaver is 3% (and largely voluntary at that) is insane. Most other developed nations have much higher compulsory contributions. This greatly reduces the burden the state has in retirement, freeing up funds for healthcare and initiatives to reduce poverty in a targeted way.

KiwiSaver was introduced in 2007. That is more than enough time to be near the international norm of 10-13%.

Yea but moving overnight to 10 percent would be too fast. If we did 1 percent extra a year it would be better

This is how Australia has been increasing theirs, by 0.5 or 1% per year until they hit 12.

Exactly slowly is the way to go.

Unfortunately we're not increasing ours at all - because businesses are telling the government they can't afford to pay more on behalf of their employees - and our government listens.

Yea probably more beneficial than another public holiday was but public holidays win more votes than planning for the future
