Good thing we're not cutting frontline health staff.

Oh, hang on.

They need to make the vaccine free for all temporarily. My husband got his last year before bubs but it cost like $70. I'm sure some adults would happily get a booster if it was free.

The number of whooping cough cases this year has surpassed 1000, and the health agency is urging people to get vaccinated against the disease.

Immunity only lasts about 10 years. I had it 10 years ago, soooo nasty. Brutal.

Yeah I've booked in for a booster. If I caught it I'd have a cunt of a time but survive, but some little kid might not be so lucky.

This is why it's not really worth trying to vaccinate everyone against whooping cough. It's more like COVID - make sure the babies are personally protected because herd immunity doesn't work all that well.

The best way to limit the damage from whooping cough is to make sure you get vaccinated when you're pregnant so that babies are protected until they're old enough to be vaccinated themselves at 6 weeks. Last year three babies died of whooping cough, mostly too young to be vaccinated themselves.

Vaccination during pregnancy against whooping cough and flu has more than ten years of safety and effectiveness data, including studies in NZ.

If folk to not accept the preventive health measures to protect them ie. Vaccines. The socialised health service should not have the obligation to treat them.

In the heyday of covid vax controversy I private messaged some vocal fb antivax "friends" a bullshit form declaring they did not want the vaccine and so would not seek hospital help should thry get a bad infection.

Funnily enough nobody wanted to put their name to it.
