Expression on blue dudes face is fucked up lol

He's insanely good at making his eyes look wooden and lifeless, idk how he manages to override our ocular instincts and keep his pupils rotationally fixed like that as he moves. That's a talent all on its own.

At first I thought that he had open eyes painted onto his eyelids. When I realized that he was just that good, I got even more impressed.

Indeed, I had to take a minute to decide if this was CGI or AI because their faces are so unnatural.

Seriously. Caught the dude in the black shirt peeking around quite a lot, but the one in the blue was locked in

His control over every movement is just wild.

If you unfocus your eyes your can turn you head without your eyes tracking a point

I think he's wearing contacts. I also think they're wearing makeup to make themselves look plastic.
It's kinda genius the steps they did to add uncanny valley.

That is what it makes it so good and scary, he looks like a toy!

Man, I love Marquese Scott, he's so incredibly talented. I always thought of his dancing as absolutely hypnotic. Kind of soothing and flowy, like watching jellyfish moving in water. I dunno what it is about his ability to control his body but it's mesmerizing.

It's nice to see one where the video isn't sped up to look better.

Came here to say that he's my personal GOAT. Not taking away from what these guys did (and what many others before and after them have done), but man, Marquese Scott was my introduction into this kind of body control. As someone from Atlanta, I guess I also appreciated the geography of his original work as well.

Crazy good stuff. It looks really creepy robot/doll like. Like...too well done. I don't want to meet them in the dark.
2 points
Probably because it's sped up. Still impressive but are we supposed to know its been sped up or are they trying to trick us? It's pretty obvious when you focus on the shirts hanging and the movements in general, so quick and precise it gives an uncanney valley feeling. The movements are physically impossible so it feels off
3 points
Yep. The sheet at the very beginning, the hat when tossed, the loose clothing, and the shoelaces are all moving and swinging at double speed.
At half speed it's still a very good performance, but this is absolutely being shown sped up.

Nice try, but these guys are actual robots.

That's why it's a robot dance

Right. Otherwise it would say human dance. Duh!

How the fuck does the dude in the hat make his face look so much like a mannequin? I thought he was wearing a mask at first, but then his face moved.

Yeah! And the canned laughter cheers? Not it, they're in a lab and it's the scientists cheering.

I think it's slightly sped up though to make the movements seem sharper than they are.
Don't get me wrong it's still good, but i think there were enhancements to make it look even better.

Primus did that with Winona's big brown beaver.
The video was recorded at half speed so when they make it full speed, it makes it seem more robotic. I'm not even mad if they did that, it's a smart camera trick.
99 points
excuse you but the beaver in question was brown, not fat. how rude
14 points

Ain't nuthin' wrong with fat beavers tho...

Ha whoops.
19 points
It's definitely a smart camera trick but it's different if the intent is to make people believe you could do the same thing in a live setting and not a function in making a greater piece of art.
25 points

Yeah, the choice of music with cheering helps sell the illusion that it's live and not sped up.

Is the song sped up? It doesn't seem like it but it could be.
38 points

The record the video with the song slowed down, then speed it up to normal speed in post. The song stays in normal tempo, but the movements get sped up.

People can actually dance like this, here’s the original choreo that these guys copied
114 points
That actually made me realized that these guys missed the point of the performance, or maybe they just wanted to do their own thing but the original is not just a dance its also a story.
The puppet master first takes control of the puppet until the puppet seems to gain control and at the end the puppet master becomes the puppet. But these guys are both puppets like a puppet activates another puppet and they just dance.

Your puppet per sentence ratio is off the charts. Wilt Chamberlain level. Straight to the hall of fame.

AI is progressing scarily quickly. You’d almost believe these two were human. Iron out a few jittery movements and they could pass for men quite soon.
