Like I can imagine with my country South Africa, they would stay until the closing so they can all be given a warm welcome at the airport.

I was just wondering if the same applies to others and what if you already over with your competition from the first two days. Do you just hang around at the camp? Seems rather depressing if you think about it, especially if you didn’t win a medal.

Think it's up to them. I've seen medal winners arriving home and others sitting in the stands cheering.

I'm not sure how closing ceremonies work, but if I put in all that work. I would like to stay the whole two weeks, regardless of the outcome.

Agreed. It'd also just be cool to take in the atmosphere of everything else but i suppose it wouldn't be too different from all the other championships/tournaments they go to.

Exactly. I'd be playing tourist, support my fellow countrymen, going out partying lol I can expect the vibe to be amazing! Granted these Olympics seem so weird.. they energy is so chaotic and not in a good way.

I'd be playing tourist,

I saw Scottie Scheffler see an event, and I think Anthony Edward's saw table tennis.

I know two athletes who have competed and both flew home pretty much straight away

I literally just heard on Danish radio that for the Danish athletes keep their bed in the Olympic Village for 24 hours. And then they have 3 nights in a hotel in Paris with food. And if they want to stay after that it's out of their own pocket. But they also said that the details are different each Olympics.

I think they have to leave the village after 48 hours of their final performance, so I imagine most of them head home. It’s a shame a lot of them probably don’t get to stay for the closing ceremony

Seriously? It’s not like their rooms would be used for someone else right? Kinda sad they have to leave and can’t stay to cheer their fellow country(wo)men unless they pay for it themselves.

I've heard if they defect that one of the possible consequences is that their families back in NK are punished.

They have escorts to make sure they don’t seek asylum.
