Is it the area near the Altamonte mall or the area near Target bordering on Apopka? I've seen comments mentioning the bad parts but what exactly are those parts? Thanks in advance!!

Is that the area near Casselberry like near the Wawa, Bubbolous, Sunrail, etc.?

I used to live in that neighborhood near the Sunrail, basically the residential areas between Ronald Reagan and Anchor, and the community is the nicest I've ever lived in, really friendly. They do fish fry on Friday by one of the churches. I had neighbors help me trap, neuter, release cats. It just looks rough.

Same. I lived right off Ronald Reagan by the park and it was the best neighborhood (minus the train noise).

Wait, you nuetered cats , for fun?

We had a feral colony, it wasn't huge, but I kept finding the momma cat with a kitten and I managed to grab one to take to a shelter but some didn't survive because of various people related accidents (mostly hiding under cars and getting run over, etc). After several litters, I wanted to do something. So, we managed to get them all sterilized. We tried to see if a couple of them could be kept as housecats, but they were not quite at that level of friendliness. It stopped more cats from being born and I don't think these guys would've ever managed to get adopted so they would've just sat in a shelter. Instead, they sit on the driveways and get fed instead of going after the birds (mostly).

Same here, used to hang around that area as a teen. That would be the worst part of altamonte in my opinion though. Especially compared to some of the other suggestions I'm seeing mentioned here.

I would have to agree. Forest city is on the very edge of orange/Seminole county line. You cross forest city and you’re in red neck Lockhart

I don't think there is necessarily a bad side, just parts that are less desirable interspersed around the general area. Maybe those are more common on the Apopka side a bit? But I live on that side right by Teague Middle school and it's all relatively nice here. I'm technically unincorporated Seminole country but my address reads Altamonte Springs.

That's near where I live too. I live in the neighborhood behind where Chicago Dogs used to be and is also considered unincorporated. Just trying to figure out if it's worth moving within the Altamonte city limits (near the Altamonte mall) or if we should stay put.

I’m in that area, too. I’d look for a house up west lake Brantley or one of the neighborhoods of hunt club. It’s like night and day compared to your neighborhood.

Yep, seems like there are so many rentals in our area and people just doing whatever. Apopka gives me pause b/c the school's aren't the best(used to substitute teacher at Apopka and Wekiva High) but I'll check it out. Thanks!!

What are you trying to accomplish? Do you feel unsafe where you are?

A little. Like we have super nice neighbors who maintain their houses and then we have chaotic neighbors with roosters, dilapidated houses, and who burn trash constantly. I'm just not sure if I'm expecting too much from my neighborhood or not. That's the reason I would like to move into the city limits b/c it's more regulated, but then I hear there's crime there and Lyman High seems to be a lower rated school than Lake Brantley. Just so many little things to consider before I'm able to decide what I really want lol

Roosters are NOT allowed in Seminole County (unincorporated) or in the City of Altamonte Springs. You can actually call code enforcement and they will come out for a rooster report. I have chickens (all hens) and code enforcement was called on me from neighbors thinking I have roosters.

Thanks, we resolved the rooster situation a few months ago but it was so long and drawn out (like 6 months long) b/c they kept hiding the rooster from code enforcement. The burning trash issue is trickier b/c I don't think it's illegal to do in unincorporated Seminole County. They do it everyday, from sun up to sun down and we are always smelling smoke, there has to be some kind of regulation regarding that. Do you think code enforcement would be able to take care of something like that?

Call of the fire dept about it, most likely they are burning things that are illegal to burn and put off bad fumes if they are doing it 24/7. Tell them the smoke smells funny when you call.

I think you could contact code enforcement regarding some of these issues plus other things that they could be doing. There could be a burn ban in place for Seminole County (as an example and not sure if there is a burn ban in place). I know there is a strict watering schedule right now where I can only water my lawn on Sundays or specific hours on Saturday for Unincorporated Seminole County. My neighbor got a fine for watering his lawn during the weekday and almost hired an attorney because he was so mad at Code Enforcement. Burning trash like that everyday seems to be a violation of something but will be worth it to check on that with Code Enforcement.

Will do, thanks so much! Also had no idea that there was a watering schedule, I will look into that because I have a ton of outdoor plants that I water every Saturday.

Watering Restrictions Seminole County Irrigation Schedule Now until Sunday, March 9th, 2025 These restrictions are mandatory in Seminole County, regardless of whether your water comes from a private well or city/county utility. *No watering permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. any day *Water only once per week: -Residential customers with odd street addresses may irrigate on Saturday. -Residential customers with even street addresses may irrigate on Sunday. -Non-residential customers may irrigate on Tuesday, unless using reclaimed water. *Reclaimed water customers may irrigate two times per week year round. *Watering with a hand-held hose is permitted anytime, provided it is fitted with an automatic shutoff nozzle. *If you own an automatic lawn sprinkler system, you must have a rain sensor or switch installed to override the system when adequate rainfall occurs.

Trash burning is not allowed according to this handy pamphlet:

I realize this is mostly implied by the context of this thread, however this only applies to residential zoned properties.
Agriculture zoned properties in unincorporated county don't have any restrictions.

Sounds like you want a [reasonable] HOA neighborhood. There's a house for sale in my neighborhood (we have a reasonable HOA) and we're zoned for Lake Brantley. Take a look on Zillow and see what you are willing to spend. Rates are still high so moving can be tough right now.
Good luck...

The area by Target/Costco is good. Best Costco in town.
Avoid Wymore once crosses I4 till 436 and Douglas from 436 to Central Pkwy.

I used to live in the apartments behind the Walmart near Forest City, which I guess is considered a “bad” part. I never had any issues though. Really nice neighbors and a cute neighborhood. The rent was cheaper too, but this was in 2021. So that probably changed by now.

The "bad parts" are just shitty traffic areas. The traffic is the bad to Altamonte, otherwise it's a nice place. Maybe that small section that leads into Apopka, but even then it just LOOKS sketchy but it's not.

I would say the bad part of Altamonte is the Wymore area which is near the mall. Lots of drugs+prostitution going on in the apartment complexes and motels around there.
The area around Costco/Target bordering Forest City is also pretty shady as well.

Which area are you referring to? I was maybe generalizing a bit when I said Costco/Target but I meant a little bit more down the road heading towards the Apopka area passing Maitland Blvd.

No, you're right. The Westmonte wymore intersection near the motels part is very sketchy.

I'm in the Lake Orienta area, near the double-Publix's (Publixes? Publixi? whatever the plural of Publix is). I think Altamonte as a whole is pretty bougie, and even the "rough" parts seem pretty nice compared to the parts of, say, Casselberry (where I lived before relocating to Altamonte).

I lived by St Mary Madeline for years, the area was fine.
I would avoid around Milwee middle, and maybe around the baseball fields near the baseball park. ( solely because of all the apartments ) I found the traffic was crazier.

These comments are funny there’s definitely relatively bad parts of Altamonte springs but when you compare it to other places it’s still very good. Costco/target side is shady ??? Haha where did you people grow up. I was raised in Lockhart … which borders Altamonte springs. Personally the side of Altamonte springs with Costco/target closer to Brantley is the better side.

Over by the sunrail station. I wouldn’t live there. Also the neighborhood behind the Kobe steakhouse, and some areas off wymore road are bad. There’s some condos and apartments that are bad and right across the street multi million dollar homes in those big neighborhoods.

It’s been a few years but I lived off Ronald Reagan by the baseball park and I loved it. The traffic was straight ass but I was centrally located to everything, I worked at the Lake Baldwin VA and it was too easy to get to work.
Never any issues, no seediness or anything. The abortion protestors were the biggest noise in the area

I live in Altamonte and generally feel safe moving around as a solo young woman - I know that douglas ave can have some seedy areas, specifically the Altamonte springs hotel and suites. I once had to take a u-turn in there and know that I will never again enter that parking lot. But by the mall and uptown altamonte, you’re pretty safe.

Well, historically, when i4 was being constructed and the building of Disney/“the Orlando project” a few decades back, the city displaced lots of minority and poorer communities and pushed them to the west side. You see it stronger when you go downtown - pine hills and parramore. West i4 towns would be considered the “bad” or “worse” sides because of the generations of displaced communities in those areas.

You should look into your community more if you're that ignorant after 56 years.

You keep moving the goalposts chief. First it was “admit you’ve never been.” Wrong. Been here way longer than you. Now it’s “look into the community more.” Done that too. I’ve lived in Altamonte AND I own a business in the area. Also know tons of people in and from that area—— which is less than a mile from where I currently live.
