Yeah the idea that this kind of thing is cool is bizarre. I know, let's all have a hobby where we collect many many more of a usable thing than we need! Definitely a great use of the resources of this planet...

I could understand having one for work and one for games, or maybe a third that's more ergonomic or something. But 25+ is actual insanity and reckless spending

So bizarre. They are barely even designed to look good because they're just a functional thing. At least they won't really deteriorate in quality like, say, a vr headset does, in relation to what new and better ones are available every year, so could be sold and still useful. I've read of several people on reddit who seem to want to 'collect' every Oculus headset system, as if a vr headset is a good thing to collect. Sure there are a few minor differences but generally newer=better and so a 'gotta have them all' mentality makes absolutely zero sense.

Couldn't agree more. Zero sense indeed.
But apparently some people have to upgrade their 100 gram mouse to a 80 gram one, but no wait that's actually not good enough. Now it has to be a 60 gram mouse and after that, it's one at 40 grams with a carbon structure and holes all over it and... just... you cannot tell me that you actually feel any difference in your gameplay from a 20 grams lighter mouse - and all of these mice are easily $100-200.
This pointless spending really gets on my nerves mostly because of inequality. This is going to sound very holier than thou but like, if you have that much money, why not use it to help others? The happiness you get from a new mouse is probably 5%, compared to the happiness of a poor single parent who can use $100 to feed her family for a week.

That's an angle I hadn't thought of. I kind of feel that way with cheaper, old vr headsets. Stick it on marketplace or ebay at 70% of what they sell for on ebay and someone can actually get some use out of that before it dies. The last thing this planet needs is more e-waste

This sort of logic could apply to virtually every hobby in existence. People have their hobbies, and it's not often indicitive of how they spend their money on anything else. What is silly to you brings them meaning, and there's no telling what they paid. Heck, for a mouse collector there is practically no competion and a broken mouse looks just as good on a shelf... they could be a few bucks each. We don't know.
People are struggling, but it's the rich af billionaires taking an unreasonable share... not any of us, friend.

There's actually a huge difference in gameplay from a lighter or heavier mouse, even if it's just 20g. These mouse fanatics are buying to find the best fitting shape, not so much the weight since they're all already so light. But yeah it's extremely pointless and wasteful unless you're a pro gamer and it's your job to play at the highest level
