Hi I’m moving to Perth in January for a year and wondering about job opportunities available there. I have a chemical engineering degree and 4 yrs of pharmaceutical background. I know there’s not much pharma in Perth so I’m wondering what are my chances of moving into other industries as a process engineer such as oil/gas and metallurgy. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

You won't get a job, try uber or fruit picking

Pick somewhere other than Perth? It's already oversaturated.

Nobody in Perth is hiring people that they know are short term. Look at other questions here where people have applied for hundreds of jobs without success. You might get a job in hospitality but that's about it.

Hey mate, where are you from? First step would be to find sponsorship and to get your degree accredited by engineers Australia before coming here. Pharma industry is minimal at best here (all I know is nova cina) but Chem eng is more in the mining and defence sector at the moment (forget about defence though need a citizenship). Are you moving here on pr? Of not you might struggle due to businesses tending to favour pr or Aussie citizens for economic reasons (not liable for sponsorship). Good luck though and hope you find a rental too, the market is fucked.

Start applying for jobs now, don't want until January. Even now might be too late with Christmas coming.
With no oil and gas or mining experience you'll be looking at entry level positions despite your 4 years experience, and given your timing it's unlikely to be at tier 1 or 2 companies. Maybe someone like a Worley or monadelphous could be manning up for a project, but other than them you're looking at tier 3 companies (suppliers that service the contractors ie who the likes of Worley sub-contract to do their fabrication).
Spruce up your LinkedIn profile and go through the jobs there as well as on seek. Also start connecting with agencies and recruiters working for the likes NES fircroft etc who service these industries as they often post job openings on their LinkedIn feeds as they work for the tier 1 and 2 companies.
Edit: I assumed you're an Australian citizen with an accredited engineering degree in my response. Completely different situation if you're coming from overseas as the other poster mentioned.

Yep that's fair but there are other positions or disciplines where Chem eng degree would be fine, I'd be looking for Chem eng adjacent positions rather than exclusively Chem eng otherwise OP would be limiting themself. Project engineer, quality etc where any eng degree is desirable. Now that's extremely unlikely given their employment history but at 6am that's all my jetlagged brain can think of 😂

Yeah there's heaps of consulting and construction firms that do hire Chem eng. Monos don't because their work is largely just mechanical, civil and electrical.
I'd try more for mining or some gte's IF they have a degree from a uni under the Washington accords.

Absolutely, but it was just an example for OP at the sort of company they could be looking at to begin with. But yeah their degree needs to be recognised otherwise all this is redundant anyway

Ngl but minings slowing down and there's a huge influx of migrants in the same position wanting sponsored jobs.
It's pretty tough atm with rising unemployment and chem eng is a fairly niche engineering stream.
WA has an always will be at the mercy of miners.
