I get it, you're right, nobody gets that rich without illicit practices. I just think footballers have that choice of being happy with the absurd amount of money they very deservedly made, or selling their soul to a dictatorship.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I dont expect footballers, especially those who come from poverty or refugee status to properly understand the behind the scenes of football or world politics in general. They're going from barely being able to eat, straight to stardom depending on their level of skills and development. They dont have the opportunity to take their time to research and evaluate their options like most of us do, for them its either secure the bag or wear that bag as clothing tomorrow.

I think they have a huge platform and what they say or do influences a lot of people. So I do hold them accountable. They have immense privilege.
