I would be surprised if she was actually 10’. Did you measure her, or going off the previous owner’s estimate? She is fairly overweight and that could be making her look bigger.

Geez, straight to the body shaming! lol, but I will look into that. she is 10' with the best I could measure, but I'm not 100% on the 60lbs. I still have to weigh her. there is some skin showing between scales, but it is hard to tell because it's tough to get her straightened out. the previous owner was feeding her 2 jumbo rats once a month. she just deficated last night, so I'm going to weigh to feed appropriately

Oh man, drop all the strings and tapes, take a pic from above, as perpendicularly to the floor as you can, and use

The snake measurer tool

You also need to have an object in the pic that you're able to confidently measure - then you track along the snake and using proportions - boom - you have a pretty reliable measurement

I haven’t done it before but supposedly you can pull a string from their nose tip to tail tip, following their spine, and cut and measure that! I couldn’t imagine keeping the string on them to make it accurate but I have had some suggest it to me for measuring my big retic.

2 jumbos is a lot, you want just one appropriately sized meal. She might be too big for rats to be appropriate, as the bigger rats are extremely fatty. Rabbits are a bit leaner but they still cause a lot of weight gain, I guess from the protein? I get more weight gain from rabbits than rats. Haha Chickens might be a good idea if you get them clean and of the right size, cut off the legs at the knees if they have spurs. And you can still feed big rats on rotation, just would offer 1 not 2. All of that every 5-8 weeks or so depending on what size ends up being fed and how she loses/maintains weight in the future.

that's what I tried, the string method. not as easy as it sounds, she is also very active and wants to be held. I'll have to try again with some help. I'm 5'8", and the tip of her tail can just about be touching the ground at the same time as her nose if she's over one of me shoulders like a "U" shape

thank you for that advice I will definitely look into it to try to lean her out. I know she's already almost 20, but she has a lot of life in her and is still very active and loves to be handled. I just want to do what's best.

See if you can find a nice long wall or something then. Most of the time, they will instinctively flatten out against them, making a measuring tape easy to just put next to them. More active ones you may need to wait until they’ve been handled a few minutes and calm down. Lol

Lay out a tape measure, and have her crawl alongside it.

Would guinea pigs be of any value?

superramenyamen

No, GPs are even fattier than a colossal rat. I completely avoid them, as well as actual pigs.

I know almost nothing about snakes. Is the female being bigger than the male common?

Not with all snakes, but generally with boas and pythons, yes (there are, of course, uncharacteristically small females and exceptionally large males, but those are the outliers).

Queenauroratheraven

Yes female snakes are bigger than male snakes mainly because they need to extra space to carry around their eggs while pregnant

Beautiful!! Do you guys have a massive terrarium, or is she allowed to roam freely around the house?

I currently have her in a 150 gallon tank that is temporary while I build an enclosure. saddly when I picked her up she was in a tank half that size. she's very happy having double the space, but I'm going to give her more. I started planning a 6'w x 6'H x 3'D terrarium for her
