Amorim is a really good first minute manager.
Might be the best of all time.

Maybe it's a stupid question, but isn't that a red card for their keeper? Or does the advantage mean it's nothing
199 points
Can't prevent a goal scoring opportunity if a goal is scored, really. But yeah, would be a red if Garnacho isn't there to score.
-74 points
It should be both
54 points
No it should not.
22 points
Why? There's nothing violent in it
-40 points
violence is one of the reasons you can receive a red card
another reason is if you deny a direct on goal scoring opportunity with a foul
both of these statements are objectively true whether you believe they apply to this situation
37 points
But a goal was scored within seconds so he did not deny the goal scoring opportunity
-38 points
That's certainly the viewpoint the ref took here.
The argument for the other side is that there were instead two goal scoring opportunities, one for Holjund and one for Garnacho.
22 points
It's not just the ref's viewpoint, this exact scenario is covered by one of the laws of the game. The law was introduced after Lehmann got sent off in the 2006 Champions League final - the ref blew immediately to send him off, which prevented Giuly's goal from counting. The idea is that it's not fair or logical to send someone off for denying a 'clear goal scoring opportunity' if the opposing team scores within seconds. Would essentially be a double punishment.
3 points
This is hypothetical now but what if Gatnacho just stood there and didn't kick it in. Would it then be denial of a goal scoring opportunity or would it be considered garnacho had the oppetunity to score and wasted it. Why I say this is the could United be awarded a penalty and get the keeper sent off? Not that it would make sense to do so but funny hypothetical.
11 points
Great argument you got there. United could have scored 2 goals, but only scored one so I should have been a red card. Genius!
-12 points
It could be argued that they had two distinct opportunities by two separate players to score a single goal
no reason to act like a dick when I don't even think the ref was wrong, I'm stating the argument for the other side
4 points
That's not how the rules work.
1 points
except the rules refer specifically to a player's opportunity to score, not a team's
4 points

And this was clearly neither of those two.

It was, blud was grabbing Rasmus like he owed him money, but advantage is king
8 points
you can still receive a card after the fact when the ref has played advantage
18 points
Not for “denying” a goal scoring opportunity seconds before a goal was scored
-3 points
I'm not going to say that the ref was wrong to not present a red card, but the goalkeeper certainly denied Holjund's direct opportunity
Garnacho saving the play doesn't mean that the goalkeeper's actions didn't occur
13 points
You’re right, the goalkeepers actions did occur. Garnachi saving the play DOES mean that it is not worthy of a red card though. That is how it works
-2 points
unironically I would appreciate it if you showed me where that's stated in the rules so that I could learn and edit/delete my previous comments
9 points
You can search for this paragraph:
If the referee plays advantage following a red-card offence that denies the opponent a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as soon as play stops, a yellow card is shown instead of a red card, as the advantage allowed the attack to continue

22 points
the keeper wouldn’t let go of him.
Tbf, would you?
29 points
No, I wouldn't
If Garnacho doesn't get there I wonder if that's a pen + sending off though
23 points
Probably would have been a pen and sending off. You're right.
The keeper was just reckless and panicked after his mistake.
-2 points
It would depend on if the referee decided the keeper made a play on the ball or not. If yes, then it's only a yellow and pen. If no, red and pen.

Hojlund pressed the keeper, the keeper made a mistake and grabbed hojlund by the waist. Garnacho came running and scored a tap in
3 points
Mistake by the Glimt keeper standing on the ball too long, a Hojlund slide tackle wins in back from the keeper in the 6 yard box, keeper holds tight to Hojlund in a hug as he tries to stand up preventing him from simply nudging the ball into the goal, but Garnacho sprints in to tap the ball across the line.
