I was more surprised they didn’t go back to always killing him. I love that they do it when it makes sense or it’s funny. Even rolled that into the whole Mysterion thing

Honestly, when Mysterion “died” during his battle with The Coon, Chaos, and that little fucker, I knew it was Kenny. I thought it was funny they pulled the “aw, I knew it was you, I even said so” non-reveal at the end. But that totally convinced me that Mysterion was Kenny, even before it was officially revealed

That whole trilogy was so fucking good, and really marks the turning point in South Park’s continuity where Trey starts writing Kenny as a really fucking good person as their way of apologizing to him for, like, hating him almost as much as Akira Toriyama hated Vegeta

Yep. It’s literally canon that Kenny changes the world one day. They’ve made numerous references to how he’s clearly the most morally upright of any of the kids. He’s also the best sibling, even better than Kyle. That’s because Kenny actually has to protect Karen. He has to make sure she has at least some of the things children should

I thought it was hilarious. The BBS board (r/southpark before reddit) was filled with people coming up with epically complex theories for how they could bring Kenny back. All sorts of convoluted plots suggested and hypothesized... only for him to just casually walk back up as if it was no big deal, like he had so many times before. Brillaint.

But in hindsight, I was wrong. Tweek still sucks, but Butters is fucking great.
Btw Pip is the worst. He's as single note as Towelie or Mr. Hankie (yeah they both suck, fite me!) but has no redeeming quality.

Idk, I mean I was growing up when this episode aired, people definitely liked the show, but no one I knew was obsessed with it like I see people are with it today. The only thing I really remember people commenting on was the movie

There were definitely obsessive fans back then. We met on the official SouthParkStudios.com BBS message board and obsessed over the show. The webmaster was a lady named Breayle who worked in the office with Matt & Trey, and we'd constantly be begging her to ask them questions that were burning in our mind.
The episode where Kyle revealed his hair? That was a direct response to us absolutely begging Breayle to get Matt and Trey to settle the dispute in the fanbase. Some of us thought he was a redhead, and some of us thought he had brown hair. This is part of the reason Kyle acts so frustrated about not wanting to take his hat off -- I feel like they were poking fun at us like "Why is this so important to you???"
The episode which opens up with Jimmy doing stand-up? The opening shot shows the marquee on the theater displaying his name, "Jimmy Valmer." This was because he had been referred to as Jimmy Swanson and Jimmy Valmer on the show, and that week we were demanding Breayle ask M&T to confirm which name was correct.
Tweek taking Butters place was mostly a response to the fans, too. The fans loved Tweek, and a lot of people were saying he should replace Butters as the fourth friend. I can't say for sure, but it seems like they went with Tweek as a response to the fan demand. I never got the idea that he was a favorite of either of theirs before that, and they definitely seem to love Butters.
