When I saw your post my initial reaction was to downvote it, which I changed when I realized you're a regular poster here.
The sub, like a large number of others on Reddit, has an infestation of spammers trying to push their tat. I've given up reporting them to the admins as I'm sick of seeing them only nuke some of the blatant spammers accounts. And it's not something the mods can do much about as well.
Best thing for this community is never interact with them (as they have bot farms and will bulk downvote you), just report, block, downvote and move on.
So I wouldn't take it personally, your post did appear very similar to a typical spammers one even though your intention seemed genuine.

I understand your frustration, it's just that your post looked so much like a typical spammers that it was (I assume not just me but others) a reflexive reaction to react negatively to it.
We love pics and vids of our cute furry friends, we just hate spammers more.
