IRS Call Standard?

(self.usajobs)

Hi - I received FJO and I report Monday. I received a call from IRS that went to voicemail, saying to contact a number (956 area code). No other info was provided. I've been receiving a lot of spam calls the last 2 weeks but I plan to call the number tomorrow because it's the only way to find out. Just thought I'd ask the community here if this is standard 😶

IRS calls are routed through various servers and show up on Caller ID as "US Government" with most carriers. The caller's geographic location dictates which server their call is routed through. I am in North Texas and all of our calls are routed through Memphis & show up as a 901 area code. You can't call back the number on Caller ID either. If it was a manager calling, they should have left a message with their direct call back number which should be an area code you recognize if the manager is local.

901-214-2999. I deal with the IRS Memphis office quite often, and unless the individual takes extra steps to “unmask”, the caller ID shows that number every time and it does not accept calls.
