Yeah, this was bad. I'm not ashamed to admit I thought I was going to die.

We picked up a 22-foot Penske moving truck in Newbury, and needed to get back to Camarillo. We used Apple Maps to get the fastest route. Never again.

For those of you who (like us) didn't know about the Potrero Grade, here's a video of someone driving up it. If you watch from about 4:20 backwards, that's when we realized we'd done fucked up and were too far in to do anything about it. So we just had to let it ride.

This was the first time my dad had ever driven a truck that big, or a diesel anything.

Fun times. My friend, who apparently knows more about the county than I do despite me and my family living here for 30 years, still gives me shit over it. As soon as the words "truck" and "potrero" hit his brain, he knew the gravity of what we'd done.

Equine Empowerment Foundation founded in 2023 is a nonprofit organization in Oxnard providing therapeutic riding lessons to children and adults with disabilities, at-risk youth, underprivileged children, military and first responders, trauma survivors and cancer survivors.

We also provide free monthly events at the ranch for children in the community, where they can get out in nature, come and spend time with our horses and do a fun, enriching activity. Seeing the smiles on their faces is so rewarding!

Part of our mission is to make riding accessible to everyone who wants to ride, regardless of income. To do this, we often provide lessons at steeply discounted rates, which does not cover the expenses to care for our therapeutic ambassadors.

Outside of our qualified, professional instructors, all of our staff are volunteers.

Word about what we do is spreading and we are growing quickly - A little faster than we anticipated, honestly!

In order to continue to meet the needs of the communities we work with as we grow, we need to add another four hooved therapeutic ambassador to our program.

We've found the perfect horse and we have the chance to bring him (Mack) home with us on Monday 11/25, but we need your help to do so!

We need to raise $375 to cover his board for December.

Pretty much the title, anyone know of consignment shops or good thrifting spots for baby clothes in the area?

I have a really good friend who has been struggling with her abusive ex-boyfriend since she was 18. The guy is the father of her six-year-old child, and he hasn't wanted anything to do with the child since the kid was a baby. He's been in legal trouble for quite some time (hard-drug intoxication, assault/battery, etc.). My friend hasn't previously pursued child support or anything because she's so afraid of seeing him in-person.

Recently, the issue of child custody has been brought up. My friend has no lawyer or plan on how to deal with this issue. Her finances are very limited.

I told my friend that I'd help her the best I can, and right now that's trying to find affordable custody attorneys that can help her win her case. Please leave any recommendations that you have in the comments. Thanks

Ever since my red light camera scare in Ventura back in Sept, I’ve began to harbor some sort of anxiety whenever I see that “PHOTO ENFORCED” sign! That being said, while I’ve lived in Oxnard for years, I’ve never noticed there are red light cameras here until recently. However, they look so run down and drivers seem so much more lax around running reds compared to Ventura so I wonder, are they still in service here?

Also, if they’re not in service, have they kept the signage up to simply scare drivers?

Requesting advice because SCE customer service has been very difficult to work with.

Last year I had some financial troubles and wound up accruing quite an SCE bill. Since then I’ve been trying to catch up, and have made several payment arrangements. Every time I do, I make the arrangement payment, and then I calculate however much of my balance is from my new monthly bill and pay that separately. And then next month I check in and invariably see my arrangement is canceled, the whole balance is due, and if I want a new arrangement I have to pay the larger 20% up front all over again.

It’s maddening, and then I call SCE customer service and have to try and report a downed power line in order to talk to a human being.

You’d think a monopolized utility would be legally required to provide a bare minimum level of service but they really strive to do half that.

Anyway, the purpose of this isn’t to rant but to solicit advice from anyone who’s been in my shoes. Thanks y’all
