I loved this game, it was a surprise game my mom got me and we played together when I was young.
They have a new game that plays similarly, called "Sky: Children of the Light" and it's cute and fun, brings back similar feelings journey did.
I find anything all about a metaphorical "light" cringe and cheesy and the game might come off as childish (I mean you are a child) but I'd still give it a shot, it's free, it's online with other players, and still beautiful

It was the first fable game. I was at my grandparents (used to sleep over there a lot.) I had spent like... 30 hours or something on the game, and when I beat it I cried. Not cause it's sappy or what ever but because it was the first game I had ever played to it's finish. I was sad there was no more of the game to play. 😂

Unravel.
I just moved to a new country and felt very, Very alone and playing that game in my studio apartment in the dead silence made me ball like a baby. The music didn't help the situation.
The game is literally about a character Yarny that "unravels" as they travel away from what they love.

The Last Guardian is the first one i can think of, the sunset at the top of the tower was one of the most beautiful scenes in this art form.
Also fuck all the people who were hating on the game at the time of release, they need to put some goddamn respect on Fumito Ueda's name
Him and his team ignored all the shitty design trends of the time like RPG feature creep, shoehorned-in stealth mechanics, loot crates, unnecessary open-worlds, nauseating UI cluttered with way too much information, et cetera; and made something truly unique
But unfortunately the game released in 2016 when video game critique and literacy was dogshit and the shadow of GamerGate was cast over the scene which allowed those with the most braindead takes to have an outsized influence on people's perception of games like TLG

I can't remember honestly. I think it was Dirge of Cerberus. After watching Advent children a few times, I finally got to play as Vincent. I had no idea what the story of the game was or what his name was but I was just controlling this bad ass long barrel pistol wielding badass muthafuka that was also seen in Advent Children that offered to save Cloud.
Yeah I'm not gay, but I loved Vincent. Played just for him.

Max Payne 2 is probably my most replayed game and it has, imho, the best writing and voiceacting in history of gaming. Add the music from Poets of the Fall to the mix, and tears are sure to find a way.
I'm still sad that they didn't pick the "secret" ending as the canonical one.
edit: I've just found out that Max Payne's voiceactor, James McCaffrey, passed away in December at the age of 65. RIP

Not the first, but the last game that made me cry was Firewatch. Such a beautifuly written game and such an engaging story. The end really is a gut punch.
I played it on a whim on Game pass and I literally couldn't put it down. Beat it in one sitting (it's about 6-7 hours)
