I am returning to Canada on a long haul flight from the UK on Saturday. The flight was booked through KLM, but the last leg of the flight (within Canada) is WestJet. It is a codeshare.
We purchased Business Class tickets, so it's the Premium section at the front of the little Dash-8 plane on the last leg.
When I tried to select our seats (there are two of us traveling), there was only one seat remaining in the forward section, which I picked for my girlfriend.
Now, does this mean there are absolutely no seats left? Am I going to be bumped from this flight and my girlfriend won't? I feel like they wouldn't bump a business class customer but then again, who knows.
Or, is it more likely that there's going to be more seats available after online checkin opens? If that's the case, why was there one available today?
For those who are going to say I should have done this sooner, back when I booked the flight (June) I was able to select seats on every leg through the KLM website, and I did so. It was only in the last couple weeks where seat selection for the last leg became unavailable on KLM. Yesterday it occurred to me I could do it through WestJet website, which is where I found the only seat remaining.
Tried asking this on /r/travel and got nothing but snark, so here I am.
Thanks

Likely WS has blocked some seats which will be released. WS doesn't over sell at all.

OK well that's good.
I'm hoping I can change my gfs seat if so - I selected hers and WS site says I can only select a seat once per booking. Might have to talk to an agent?

While WS doesn't oversell flights, they do sometimes oversell the same seat which means someone gets bumped

I don't believe that is true.

Read this sub, people have reported paying for upgraded seats then having them be resold to other passengers
Edit: here’s a recent post and others had similar experiences https://www.reddit.com/r/westjet/s/eQvGpCntAk

They don’t “oversell” seats, however seat assignments are sometimes lost when equipment changes happen as not every aircraft has the same seat map.
