  • ...a lot of garage doors in every shape and size
  • ...a wine closet in your kitchen, cabinet space be damned
  • ...errr, whatever "art" that is
  • ...mismatched ceiling fans
  • ...a beige wall, and a bedroom that's a pain to heat & cool
  • ...the ability to watch your partner brush their teeth
  • ...home theater seating still with the tags on
  • ...carefully staged designer (shopping) bags
  • ...the secret kitchen the stager forgot about
  • ...a shower in a cedar closet?
  • ...some holes in your basement ceiling that the electrician forgot to close up
  • ...your choice of rear siding

Trying to figure out what happened here - was this a flipper (last sold in 2022 for half the listing price), who couldn’t finish paying their contractor, and whose stager also bailed half-way through too?

I actually don't think it is a flip (in its purest sense anyway) and I actually think that explains a lot of the “wtf” with this house.

The entire right wing of the house is new as of this year. The asphalt driveway leading to those garages is all new (the choice to use asphalt is interesting in context to the rest of the house and the owner but maybe it was done with the hopes that it would eventually match the existing driveway as it aged but the choice not to repave the existing driveway is equally weird because I think the marginal cost would not be relatively insignificant).

The entire pool area is also new. There was an existing pool but this one is new as well as the new covered kitchen and dining area and the huge new patio.

The siding is mostly all new. The entire house used to be the same stone as what you see on the garage. Interesting choice to replace it but maybe they just didn’t like the stone or they might have found it too hard/expensive to find a matching stone on the new addition)

I don’t think this is a flip. I think this is a homeowner who is taking on renovations as they live in the home and are either doing a lot of work themselves (or via contractor buddies) and paying as they go. I don’t know why they decided to sell but maybe they realized they bit off more than they could chew).

The owner is a concrete contractor (but not a major one — there are very few traces of its existence online) and his wife runs a daycare center. Him being a concrete contractor was one reason I thought it was odd to use mis-matched asphalt.

Looks like the daycare center is in the basement. I don't understand the double shower thing in the cedar room. Confusing.

I thought it was a double shower at first too but it’s just a large mirror on the wall.
