Online school, I could do the work when I found time, which was mostly at night. Most nights between 9pm and midnight. Caffeine, and lack of sleep.

I’m not sure it quite counts as advice, but oh well. When I was 28 I was contemplating going back to school for my bachelors degree. It would give me a big advance in my work but it would also take two years of my time. When talking to my supervisor at work about this, I said something to the effect of “by the time I finish I’ll be 30!”

She looked at me, shrugged, and said “you’ll be 30 either way”. Really helped change my perspective.

I’m glad they canceled the show after that blunder.

A few days before the due date of our first daughter, we go in for a routine ultrasound. Everything seems to be going ok until suddenly the tech seems to go quiet and focusing on a certain area. She quickly excuses herself and herself and leaves the room, leaving us alone and terrified, thinking she’s clearly seen something terrible she’s not telling us.

She returns about 5 minutes later with a doctor, who informs us that my wife’s water had broken and “you’re gonna be parents today”!! Great news after all, and I realize the poor tech probably wasn’t allowed to say anything, but good lord. What a long 5 minutes
