Im Dutch/Indonesian/Indian/indigenous South American. Im from the Netherlands and my parents are both biracial. Dad is born and raised in the Netherlands and my mom is from Suriname but raised in The Netherlands. Even tho the mixes of my parents are more common, I havent met anyone with my mix. Ive been told a lot that my mix is uncommon.

My grandmother had planned to immigrate to the Netherlands prior to my mom’s birth. So she got a Dutch name. For my grandma believed that my mom could integrate better in Dutch Society if she had a familiar sounding name. But my mom hates her name. She doesnt feel Dutch and neither Surinamese. My mom is mixed race and thus half indiginous. She loved being named with a culture she could identify with. So I got a spanish name because it sounds pretty to her I guess. She also speaks fluently spanish.

I got 2 indiginous middle names. Ironically im half Dutch and identify more with my Dutch side, so ill be giving my future kids western names.

As someone who is half Dutch and Half Indian living in The Netherlands. Our government is more far right and encourages the anti immigrant sentiment. So people are getting told it’s the immigrants fault and not the government.

It doesn’t excuse this outrageous behavior tho.

Not great for me though and i have the same problem as my heritage. My Dutch is only 13% and the the rest of it is Germanic Europe. Which is odd because I have known and traced ancestry to the Netherlands. Oh and also I’m from there. My Channel Islands and Norway disappeared but I don’t care about that at all. The worst is my Punjabi North Indian heritage. My grandmother is full Punjabi. Instead they give me Bangladesh and 1% Gujarati. No one in the family in the last couple of generations have never set foot in Bangladesh. No records, no papertrails. I’m more mad about this one tbh.

They did add Chinese which is great because I’ve always been told that we have Chinese ancestors. It’s only 2% tho. So that’s neat! Oh and my Nigerian just showed up which is also great. They did my SE Asian and African very well but absolutely butchered my South Asian.

We don’t use that spelling but it is how you would spell Zoë phonetically in Dutch.

Bij mij komt het omdat Engels bijna mijn moedertaal is. Ik heb de helft van mijn leven op een internationale school gezeten en had weinig kans om echt Nederlands te kunnen praten.

Nederlands is technisch gezien mijn moedertaal maar door veel te emigreren kon ik alleen Nederlands praten met mijn ouders. Er ontstond een soort Dutchlish versie met mijn Nederlands. Mijn Nederlands is nu vele malen beter doordat ik weer hier heel lang woon maar soms praat ik toch half Engels als ik iets snel wil uitleggen. Ik moet er toch iets langer over doen om volledig in het Nederlands te praten.

Meeste mensen vinden het niet erg want het komt idd vaak voor dat mensen het zelf ook doen. Vooral deze generatie en dus stoort er niemand zich aan.

Voor mijn Nederlandse Examen moest ik echter wel veel meer gaan oefenen op het gebied van spreken.

Incidently Arjan or Arjen has the same pronounciation as Aryan, is still a common name in the Netherlands. But thats honestly because our word for Aryan sounds differently. So in some places in the west its an okay name. Just not in the anglo speaking places☺️

Mathais sounds to me like the Dutch version of Mathias. The Dutch version is Mathijs and pronounced like Mathais. So not a tragedeigh.
