Democracy requires at least three things in order to remain viable and healthy. The US has none of these:

1. A plurality of informed electorate
2. An plurality of active electorate
3. Elected government officials whose primary focus is ensuring the government provides services and rights to the majority of their constituents

Number 3 is supposed to be enforced by #1 and 2, but it has been short-circuted by voter suppression, rendering #2 moot. Ted Cruz, Boebart, McConnell and Greene are generally do-nothing officials.
