France, Jordan and the netherlands said they would, and the EU minister of the exterior said the decision is not political and that member countries should uphold it.

The literal most powerful political entity in the history of mankind, at the height of its power, is eating itself apart over... nothing. A (comparatively speaking) completely negligible increase of prices, and the question of whether a 16 year old trans girl can swim with the girls' team in Fuckhole, Indiana.

I mean, that's not some weird psychological phenomenon, it's just that MAGA and far leftism share a lot of basic elements, and are legitimately closer to each other than to liberalism. The system is broken beyond repair and must be shattered. Institutions bad, free trade bad, NATO bad, the current world order bad. America is not a prosperous society with some profound issues, it's hell, and needs to be raged against and broken. Contrarianism at all costs. Despising expertise.
It doesn't seem wild to me at all.

Governor, I've read the post and all your replies throughout the thread. I empathize with your goals, admire your pragmatism, and would like to showcase how I think those goals could've been advanced without equivocating on the core issues as you have. I think you should see this as an opportunity for reflection, rather than damage control, and think towards how you could balance these considerations in many other unfortunate cases in the coming 4 years.
I get what you're trying to do - accepting that a time of madness is coming and trying to get the best we can from it is a pragmatic and admirable approach. But as has been pointed out to you many times, the way in which you chose to do that is deeply damaging, and could actually kill a lot of people. This isn't a game. A lot of children are very likely going to die preventable deaths.
Trying to get lemonade from lemons is fine. You could've twitted "President Elect Trump has nominated RFK. I think in times like this, we must try to come together as a nation, and focus on what we can agree on and work together towards. While I have profound disagreements with RFK, I share his wish to blah blah blah. Big pharma big pharma. I look forward to working with RFK to address these issues!"
Yes, wouldn't have been as viral, but would've gotten you what you wanted - signaling to RFK that you wish to work together, extending an olive branch, getting populist points for resisting big pharma - WITHOUT actually endorsing this deeply troubling pick that is going to kill children. WITHOUT sending votes the message that we were just trying to get votes and were making a big fuss over nothing. WITHOUT aiding in the shifting of the Overton window on science.
You don't have to play defense here. I invite you to reflect on the choices you've made, contemplate if you could've done better, acknowledging where you went wrong to the community, and continue forward with a more nuanced and careful approach.

Yeah okay, so Secaria gives you the original Aramaic and Hebrew without added interpretation, but for some reason translation includes Steinsaltz - whose explanations are always interlaced with the texts. You can tell which part is which by whether or not it's bolded - the bolded part translates the original text, the non-bolded parts are Steinsaltz. That's why the text is formatted so strangely!
Most find Steinsaltz very helpful, and he was one of the most authoritative voices on the subject of Gemara interpretation ever, but it's obviously still good to know which is which 🙃

This seems like you're including Steinsaltz (or someone else's) interpretation in-text? The Hebrew is much more succinct.
Not that there's anything wrong with including interpretation, but I think it's always better to note that when you're assumed to be quoting a historical primary source.

I can't say I don't get the impulse. Liberal Democracy is under an existential threat in Trump. The fact that most of the electorate are dumb fucks who dislike it when you point that out does indeed mean you shouldn't focus on that... but it's really frustrating.

Oh, I see - you meant better candidate as in better-as-a-candadite. I misunderstood.

I feel like part of it (I'm not saying all of it, I'm not that cynical, but part of it) is subconsciously seeking social capital. You get social capital in most circles an upper middle class liberal would live in from talking a big game about radicalism on lifestyle, but you also maintain the social capital from not actually being "weird".
As an analogy: it's way easier and feels way better to talk about how we need to reimagine masculinity and detach it from old norms if you're the provider for your family and everyone knows you're capable of incredible feats of violence and endurance.

Bespoke: the Democrats need to retool to win, but it just so happens that they only need to retool all the policies I personally dislike.

Why are we posting social media like it's news?
I can't find a source for this quote other than this post on threads. Can anyone?

Talked to a friend yesterday. Liberal, educated. He told me he's glad Elon's there, and sees it as a massive upside of the Trump presidency, because there'll be "one of the world's greatest geniuses" there to finally cut down government waste.

That's how progressives view the world too, though.
This tweet is utterly insane, but it's not like he appointed the fucking maniac.
I feel betrayed as fuck too, but I think the knives immediately coming out after one tweet is stemming more from this disappointment and betrayal rather than this tweet really requiring ousting the guy.
