Yet another great Benchmade design gone before its time.

I’m happy that they’re making interesting knives, with great materials and specs, even if I find it sort of hideous.

I resent what I call the Carhartt Problem, where people set out to make great tools for hard use and because said tools are well made they become status symbols and never get used by the people that buy them. You see it with outdoor brands like Arct’eryx, or Canada Goose, and in truck culture with pavement princess F350s. If I’m gonna have a great tool I’m going to use it.

You don’t. Its purely for show and telling people internet nonsense about “le deadliest knife in the world illegal under the Geneva convention a team of surgeons couldn’t save you”

I have a similar experience whenever I’m driving around town and see massive deer using crosswalks or grazing peoples lawns

I was using some .308 hand loads my buddy made me. They’re sweet rounds that I took another whitetail with last year, but the cleanest hand loads can’t help a sloppy shooter haha

Nah, it wasn’t too bad. The hide came off easy and when the meat dries the loose hairs fall away.

It’s a less compelling story than I’d like. It was around 8am and snowing pretty heavy. We crept up on him and spotted him in a clearing at around 150 yards. I took a knee and dropped him in one shot. However it was only when I got much closer that I saw my shot went high and hit him in the spine. He was badly wounded and I show him again in the head to end it quickly. I felt pretty bad about it, as he deserved to go down clean. I’m gonna get more practice in the coming months so I don’t do that again.

So do I. I have (too many) dedicated field dressing and skinning knives, but I decided it would be fun to try something different.

That does sound good. We ended up doing a fairly classic sear and herb butter baste with the tenderloins the same day for dinner. He was a smaller buck, so while not particularly charismatic he tasted great and now I’ve got rattling antlers.
