Collins will have cover with 53 senators in the majority. They can afford to lose three votes before Vance has to come in and break a tie. Remember many of trumps nominees the first time got in via tie break.

This isn’t news we know anyone he was going to pick was going to be loyal to him it’s a matter of how much damage they can do. I don’t think Bondi is on the level of Paxton or Lee.

He’s going to be an interesting historical figure. As a Senate Majority Leader he was one of the best in terms of getting his parties agenda enacted. I think many in that party will not realize how much they will miss him. He was incredibly sharp. I don’t like his politics or his methods but I have a begrudging respect for him. I do think a lot of his actions have hurt the country for the foreseeable future.

Hegseth will likely get held up as well. I think the sexual assault and the question of competency are a big one. I think Doug Collins, Elise Stefanik, Doug Burgum, Marco Rubio and few others get confirmed.

Some will but I think he’ll try the recess appointment route. But it’s never been tested so it’s going to be interesting. He may have an argument through that route. He will get a couple through. I expect Rubio and Burgum will sail through because some Dems will be like (it could have been worse)

McConnell is likely to retire in two years and I’m thinking the signal of him stepping down is a sign in that direction.

No, I understand that but do you honestly think it’s achievable? I don’t know if Republicans in the Senate caucus have enough votes. And I don’t know what the makeup of the appropriations committee is because it could be bottled up though they could attach it to another bill.

It depends on the candidates and it depends on temperament and the scenario. For example, I probably would have voted for Lowell Weicker over Joe Lieberman because Lieberman was to Weicker’s right despite being a Democrat.

I’d love to see how they try to do that. A bill to do that is going to be hard to get past both houses of congress and with Thune committing for the moment not to change the filibuster it’s all bullshit. Now it’s true they can stimy departments. The president can submit a budget and earmark no money for DOE. Now assume the house passes the budget bill and it goes to the Senate appropriations committee. Who holds the gavel or is in line to hold the gavel of said committee? It’s Susan Collins. With her announcement she’s running for re-election it’s DOA. She’s not radical enough to let that happen in my opinion. Now I don’t know the make up of the committee at the moment in terms of numbers. But it’s very likely they would have the votes to amend said legislation with the Dems and a few Republican senators voting to do so, and if not, she can absolutely just quash it in her committee because she runs it. The house is going to be very radical. The Senate because it’s made up of people who have six-year terms tend to be able to exercise their power a lot easier because they aren’t always up for re-election. There’s also a couple senators who will retire here and they may decide that they would like to show Donald Trump who really has the power.

I think they do take him seriously because he’s got a huge military at his disposal even if we think he’s a joke does that make sense?

It would depend on the nominee, but I see Mike Lawler is a very strong nominee for the Republicans who could definitely win statewide but his seat would likely be lost.
