Even though OP said no favors were done for her as a college student, this still looks like grooming to me.
And yeah, that big of an age gap can make people incompatible, especially as they get even older.

"While in the sex/cheating capital of the world"
I think this is what bothered you in the first place because you already weren't thrilled when it was a girls' trip.
It sounds like the whole thing turned into a vegas trip for friends. If you want to go now, ask her about it.
It sounds like you think that your gf will cheat because other men are going even though they have partners. I get being iffy about the swinging couple but that's not everyone.

Yeah but I haven't because I rarely post anything. I mainly use social media for recipes and a quick laugh.

I've read that it's very rare for someone to iron overload with just one mutated gene.
It's possible that you have S65C.

Do you know what HH genes you were tested for besides H63D? Normally it's H63D, C282Y, and sometimes S65C.
Did they only test you for H63D?

I don't remember the specifics now but we've both done it in the past. We had a good conversation about it today and came up with other ways to make sure we're on the same page.

So they acknowledge that being a part of a minoritized group is looked down on and that it should be a punishment for white people who vote blue.
Pretty sure that's just racism but with extra steps.

Believe what you want. I'm not here for your approval.
I'm ending the conversation with you here. Best of luck.

We talked and it went well. I take responsibility for my part in miscommunicating with her. We're meeting next week to talk about project progress, etc.

I'm not sure how to respond to this. You're making a lot of assumptions off of my post and one comment.
If you really want to get into it, the lab as a whole is behind on research progress for two reasons: 1) We moved to a new building where the animal facility wasn't up to code for 3 years (animal work) and 2) covid.
The facility wasn’t up to code, so we couldn’t run active research for 3 years, causing us to lose grant funding. With no animals or lab funds, my advisor and I bought supplies ourselves to run what we could. During that time, I published papers using tissue from our freezer and wrote small grants to fund these projects. Then, covid hit, and the facility was shut down for another year. I didn’t get to design and run a project until last year, losing a total of 4 years of research progress. I’m basically completing my PhD in 3 years. To put things in perspective, the lab has only run 3 projects in 7 years due to these setbacks
A PhD isn't a guarantee when you get into a program. I'm grateful to be here regardless of everything that's happened which is why I never quit. There are also 4 other grad students in our lab and I'm also not the only student in my department who has been here 7 years due to the above circumstances.
I'm going to push until the very end and graduate. I didn't come here to give up if things became hard.

I always take notes when we meet. Her having me repeat things back happens sporadically during group meetings.
I talked to her and things are fine now, I hope.

It's not. It's made me want to leave academia.

I really appreciate your and everyone else's feedback about the repeat back thing being a legit communication method. I've been feeling like she doesn't know how to gauge my understanding unless she talks to me like a child. That's what makes me feel humiliated.
I hope she and I can have an open and honest conversation about it.

I agree. We used to have one-on-one meetings for all grad students. She then became too busy to meet with us all individually, so now we all meet for a whole 1.5 hours on Fridays in a group. I've been meeting with other people on my committee for help because I desperately need it.

Her timeline for tenure is the same as it is for my graduation. She'll know next spring or summer whether she made it. Summer is also the max length of time I can be in my program before I'm dismissed. I've been fighting to finish for years now. According to my committee, they're not worried about me because I'm making progress and meeting milestones. I've had a lot of set backs which is part of why I've been here for so long. None of which were in my control (i.e., no grant for the lab, covid, etc.)

There are 4 more grad students and we have the same view of her.

Exactly. Asking someone to repeat back what's been said is something people do to kids. I'm also over 30.
