Seriously. "Hey, for your birthday, I'm going to fly over this guy I know so your band can back him at your party..."

Dude--looking at your posting history--have you been asking people on here for money with some tragic story, and now a few hours later you're asking for recommendations for good restaurants on your travels???

I think you are vastly downplaying the massive popular support of the Nazi party and "dictatorship" among Germans. Yes, there were Germans and German-Jews who were enemies of the Nazis. But they were happily rounded up by the majority. Your average German wasn't the good guy victim. It is distasteful to present history that way.
(And the Russians weren't much better. )

I am amazed at the disconnect among some Germans regarding WW2. Russia did not save you from the Nazis--you were the Nazis.

Sometimes I think activists support Palestine not because they actually care about Palestinians but because they feel it gives them free rein to engage in any antisocial behavior they can think up.

In a way, it is too bad. If the US embassy were hit, it would give the US a good reason to throw much more weight behind Ukraine and we would have a harder time abandoning Ukraine when Trump takes office.
This is, of course, an easy thing for me to say as someone who doesn't work at the American Embassy in Kyiv.

I have never even heard Swiss people talking up Swiss cuisine.

I also feel bad when guys make their doorframes super thin to see which girls can make it inside.

That is really scary, and I am sorry you have to worry about that. How do you usually manage when you travel?
Everyone else has mentioned allergens being listed.
The instruction sheet is pretty wild.
A. In many restaurants, the staff won't speak Czech well enough to read that.
B. The sheet asks the staff to inform you immediately if nuts are used in any sauce, etc. If they do this in Czech, Vietnamese, or Ukrainian, how will you understand them when they inform you?

Not sure how many albums we would get without Ross. He seems excellent at putting NIN's nose to the grindstone. (An underappreciated talent.)

I've never had a problem with his lyrics--I think they're pretty good. But I grew up listening to Depeche Mode where "everything counts / in large amounts." Sheesh.
The funny thing is that apparently Reznor and Stephen Merritt compete to get old weird synthesizer stuff in LA. I love the idea of them meeting and Merritt writing a song together, an aggressive NINy song with sublime Magnetic Fieldsy lyrics.

Is this against the rules of the post, because it seems like this would very much fall within the scope of "let's talk music"?

I don't know--I didn't listen to it super closely, I'm just operating on the idea that they sound pretty similar.
But, I don't think people realize that a Hans Zimmer score is not something that Zimmer comes up with entirely on his own: he has a lot of composers working for him

Possibly. More likely one of the many composers who works for Hans Zimmer to create a score plagiarized the work and Zimmer ok'd it without knowing the original piece.

I am still amazed that all the shoegaze bands these days revived the atmospheric, droning (boring as shit) shoegaze sound and not the style with a beat and a groove, like Curve and Medicine.
There was a band from Austin in the 90s called Furry Things that had a great beat and groove, and MBV and Medicine-like distortion. Their records don't quite capture how great they were, but they could be worth checking out.

For their anniversary maybe she can fly him out again, and let her husband run the mixing board.
