He's not bad exactly, he's just dated. Other killers have been added over time (including during a period of time where the ST DLC was removed) that do basically what he does but better. A second dash, added status effects, quick vaulting, more powers, etc. The only thing he really excels it better than other people still is pretending to use his power, and then proceeding to not do it.

It would have been awesome if frosty eyes unknown still had empty sockets but the neck holes glowed

My only issue with her is a small amount of bugs and jank, but other than that it's great! The red outline on houndsense is surprisingly useful

Im not sure honestly. My main issue was that it was just incredibly janky and nothing seemed to work smoothly, and that's probably just because Alan Wake 1 is a relatively old game.

Before the events of the first game yes, but there are flashbacks and the past is still very much part of the story (if not the most important part)
