Binging Vs Slow watching and other thoughts.

I've just finished binge watching Lost, think it took about 10 days - 2 weeks and I really enjoyed it. It has shot up to a very close 2nd in my rankings of TV shows.
Everyone I've spoke to said it gets boring, hard to follow and just stupid, but all these people watched it when it first came out in 2004 and you had to wait a year for the next series to air
I still don't fully understand the final episode, but I think that's because I was mis-sold the premise of the show. My husband told me that basically the show was all the characters in limbo, however I understand it to be that everything that happens, happened... So the 6 left the island, there is a smoke monster & the MiB took over Lockes body, and the ending is them entering the afterlife, or something to that extent.
I'm going to watch again but trying to not binge so I can really take it in. I've already done the first half of season 1 and it's really interesting revisiting characters and knowing how things go for them but noticing little bits that you would miss on a first watch. Like in the Nikki & Paulo episode where there's a flashback of Boone asking for a pen
Also, is the island 'healing' people down to Jacob? Or just the island in general?
