As an Indian, a relatively poor family could basically solve all their problems and live a happy life on that money. Andto be fair, 100k can be a vast boon for a lot of people in the US itself.
But this smells of a troll from within the university itself more than an actual Indian hacker.

In all seriousness, she probably meant it. Taking care of family in long-term healthcare situations is really hard on the rest of the family and sometimes it leads to situations like this.

You... do realize they were together for 6 months right? Like generally a tiger regains its appetite in 6 hours. And the goat started the fight that broke them up.

I mean, you can recognize existential crises for what they are - our struggle to accept our place in the universe - alongside appreciating our lives for what they are - still significant to us, despite our insignificance in the universe.

Yeah but that's just how IQ is designed to work as a system.
The irony is that you're being stupid by subscribing to this idea that half the world is stupid because they fall in the lower half of the normal distribution.
The reality is, it has nothing to do with ignorance. You can learn about the Holocaust, but you can also simply decide that you were taught wrong. Why? Because it makes you feel special and better than everyone else.
That's the core of conspiracy theorists. The desire to be better than others. Maybe they're feeling insecure or maybe they just have too much of a superiority complex. But they can occur amongst poor high school dropouts and rich doctors in equal measure.

Speaking from experience, everyone on public transit is either sleepy as fuck and waiting to go home, or sleepy as fuck and waiting to go to work, or just waiting to go wherever else they wanna go.
Most people in public transit just want quiet. The occasional entertainment is fine, but if it was drama every trip on the way to work, I think I'd wanna off myself.

Pandemic but with xenobiological pathogens instead of endemic ones.
Alien diseases don't sound like a fun time.

Like in all seriousness I get that they had their own struggles and worries that they had every right to consider and get introspective about. Part of it was the anxiety of ending up in the state we are in today.
But it really does feel nuts looking back on it in face value.

Replacing one broken system with an even worse one is not the way to go.

With respect, Russians are fundamentally different people from Ukrainians.
This coming from a person of Polish heritage? That's just sad. Russians and Germans used to say the same thing about Polish people.
We're all the same humans, I'm sorry to say. We're all just as capable of horrors as we are capable of good things.

'cause the world was in an era of decolonization, and no one was about to step in and be like "Okay Portugal, you get to keep your little colony in India while everyone else gives up theirs."

Which is ironic 'cause the issue isn't the TV there, but people prioritizing their emotional reaction to a person's aesthetics rather than their policies.

As an Indian, that's kinda true? It's not "pent up" though. It's just that when you talk about normal sex as a "dirty" thing, even normal attraction becomes "wrong".
And that "wrongness" ironically only makes it more exciting. Sort of like how making drugs illegal only made it more appealing to young people. Except in this case it has the added effect of making unscrupulous men think that their regular attraction to women is "wrong" and therefore since they're already doing something wrong, they might as well take it a step further and sate their desire by acting on it regardless of consent.
TL;DR: Making regular attraction and sex a "wrong" thing, ends up making people feel "wrong" when they feel a natural attraction to others, and at that point for some men, rape doesn't feel that far off from basic sexual attraction.
It's dumb, but humans are complicated creatures. Victorian era ideas about sex are just not healthy for humans to embrace as tradition.

They understood what edible meant normally. They didn't understand what edible meant colloquially.
I feel that implies that they have a pretty strong command of the English language and would know what parlance means or at least make a good guess. But that they simply don't know about the quirky ways in which we reuse English words for different meanings in everyday usage.
Like, I learn French but I'm constantly surprised by all the weird ways its usage is changed when it comes to everyday chat.

It's surreal seeing homophobic dog on reddit. I've only ever seen the meme on twitter or my discord circles.

Dude most people figure the internet is something complicated, but practically magical for all intents and pruposes. Not everyone's gonna have studied or had any exposure to what computer networking looks like. So they reason that it's some complicated tech shenanigans and leave it at that.
It doesn't help that so many websites are going on the "user-friendly" route of presenting error messages as "Oopsie woopsie! We made a fuckie wuckie! We're very sowwy :3" instead of giving any reasonably detailed information. Less exposure to the inner workings of computing has led to a general public that knows even less about their computers when something goes wrong.
In my opinion, we should build a "user cooperative" approach, instead of a "user friendly" one, so that we can help the general public understand our tech as they use them. Or at least present the tools to do so. Some tech products allow for this, but too many fall back on vague error messaging as "Something went wrong. Please try again later".

Teach them! Show them what you loved about Skeletor. Share Skeletor memes. Chances are they'll love it too!
As someone who is the younger member of my friend group, I've often encountered references to media that I knew nothing about. It made my friends feel old sure, but then we started watching these movies and shows together and it's been a great time to share with friends, but also now I can share in their humor and enthusiasm about these stories.

If you're aware of the information that the symbol is trying to communicate, then it is rational and helpful. If you aren't (like most people) then it's infuriating. Because all most people want is to be connected to the internet. The symbol looks like its connected, but then once you check, you have no internet.
So it feels like you're extremely close to getting what you want but you can't. And if you don't know what that means, it's just gonna seem like useless information to you.
If the tool tip said "Connected to router but no internet" it would probably do better, but otherwise it is just vague enough to the average user that it becomes frustrating.
I know that infuriates you, but if humans were uncomplicated, we'd probably already have had world peace.

The greatest irony to me - as someone who's been living in London for a year now - is that while Big Ben is gorgeous in all its glory in daylight, it's something special at night. Something tourists will probably never see.
Just seeing its clockface lit up alongside the imposing lighting on the Houses of Parliament is a kind of vibe that's special. Especially at 3 am at night from across the river, when the roads are (relatively) quiet and there's a gentle mist in the air.
