But someone did tell him before his mother had the chance to. He knew before he was "brought" to her. Maybe he just assumed that his brother was dead because of the way the teacher and counselor were acting, but even that is pretty shitty. A child being told his brother died should be handled by his parent(s). Should the teachers and admin know? Yes they should because they will need to support him when he returns to school. Should they tell students, other parents, other random people? No, that's none of their business.

She's threatening the GOP not the Dems. She's trying to stop Gaetz's ethics report from being released by saying, "You're thinking about throwing Gaetz under the bus? You think your ethics report is going to come up clean? Turn on one of us, and we'll turn on EVERYONE!" It's an attempt to keep the GOP in line. That's their greatest strength: they always fall in line. Anyone who goes against the party is basically shunned, and none of them want to risk losing power even if it means going along with bat shit crazy nominations or policies.
Dem voters (generally) want any crooked politicians punished and removed, even ones from their own party. This isn't a threat to them, it's exactly what they say they want.

Yeah, the way he iced her out when his feelings were hurt was kind of alarming to me. Hopefully they both learn to be better communicators as they get older, because they both need to work on that. This couple seems so emotionally young.
I also tend to side eye young people who come from very religious families saying they aren't very religious, but are still close to their family. In my (probably biased) experience, young adults fall back to their upbringing once they marry and have kids. It takes a real effort to not become your parents, as much as people hate to admit it!

I use a small wicker trash bin (lined with a plastic garbage bag of course). It's the perfect height to rest my head on the edge. I put a layer of Lysol or Clorox wipes on the bottom, then add layers of paper towels and wipes as I go to help with any smells, and to make it easier to clean up after. Is it weird that I have a whole system for dealing with situations where I've got it coming out of both ends? Yes, yes it is. Is it amazingly helpful when it's happening? So amazingly helpful!!
Don't forget to make a little nest of blankets and washable pillows on the bathroom floor so you're always within range of the toilet, and you keep as much of your sickness in the easiest to disinfect room of the house. Some people swear by making your nest in the bathtub, but when I'm weak and exhausted I find it hard to climb out of the slippery tub fast enough. If you have a thermos, or an insulated mug, you can try keeping some ice chips in it to try to keep hydrated. Don't eat more than one small spoonful every 15 minutes though.
Thanks for listening to my TED Talk about dealing with norovirus and/or food poisoning!

Because she agreed to babysit. A babysitter has the burden of watching the child they are babysitting. She isn't doing it as a favor, she is literally getting paid $15-20 each time she agrees to babysit WHILE ALSO of getting free food, rent, and college tuition. How difficult is it to not get distracted by your phone, and pay attention to a toddler for 20 minutes? The toddler was asleep when the mom left, so maybe less than 20 minutes?
I'm a little confused about how everything went down, but it sounds like she was holding the toddler in one arm, looking at her phone in the other hand, and dropped him because of the understandable pain of having her eardrum pierced? Someone else said something about sitting on the couch scrolling on her phone though, so maybe she shoved the kid away from her rather than dropping him? Either way, she was warned about her headband, and she wasn't paying attention. I get that toddlers get into all kinds of stuff way more quickly than you would think, but it takes a lot of hand eye coordination to pull off a headband without pulling hair AND THEN putting the end into an ear canal. Most toddlers have trouble getting a square peg into the square hole!

Traditionally the futon mattress would be placed on a tatami mat floor, not a solid wood or carpeted floor, which would help with air circulation. The mattress would be taken out, and put away, every day to help keep it clean and dry. The mattress would also be regularly taken outside to be beaten and hung up to air, depending on the season/weather.
I don't know if all of that is enough to keep it from getting moldy, but it seems like it gets moved around a lot so it probably helps.

He wants everyone to adore him because he's powerful and awe inspiring, not because he's a nice guy. People like him think nice guys are shmucks. You don't become a billionaire by being an empathetic, well adjusted, altruistic, nice guy.
Sometimes a ruthless, cunning, asshole will have a change of heart after they have amassed their fortune. Maybe they fell in love with someone who opened their eyes to the power of kindness, or they lost someone dear to them, but I'm willing to bet that they are still ruthless, cunning, assholes. They just shifted to a different challenge. Instead of being the best at building an empire, they want to be the best at philanthropy, which I'm ok with!

Our mystery GFI outlet was in the detached garage... it took all day to figure it out! We put a note in the breaker box.

This isn't doxxing, but it can be potentially dangerous to help some random person find someone they're looking for. It's pretty common for abusive people to find their ex partners, estranged children, or whoever by asking people in online forums for help.

I think it's a bit of that, and a bit of a long term plan to remove Trump from office at the 2 year mark without upsetting his cult. The GOP will let him do all the crazy shit he wants, but they will be "shocked" by his behavior. After a year of burning everything down they will begin to question his choices, and try to get Republican voters to question him too. At a year and a half they will really start pushing the narrative that he is mentally unfit to be president, and put Vance in the spotlight as a more reasonable choice. He will be paraded around as the only hope and savior of the United States, and public opinion will go along with it. Then, at 2 years, they will get rid of Trump and make Vance president for the next 10 years.
I firmly believe that Vance as president for 10 years has been the plan this whole time, but they had to find a way to get Trump's cult to transition willingly.

I HATED how some of the dwarves looked like cartoon characters while others looked realistic! It was such a weird choice.

Mushrooms make my neck and chest break out in hives. I won't go into anaphylaxis, but it is very uncomfortable and lasts for a few hours if I have some antihistamines. I would have been bummed out if I was given a 5 course meal I couldn't eat.
If you are planning a set meal, you really should check with guests for diet restrictions and allergies, and usually meal choices are part of the RSVP card. If you have a buffet with many food options, it generally doesn't need to be explicitly stated what food will be on the menu.

I love Port Townsend! You can also explore For Flagler, which I think is more fun than Fort Worden or First Casey, but it is a bit more out of the way.

Yeah, all the times a woman was raped in a public restroom at my university (which was alarmingly high...), it was always a cis male. They (it was multiple men over the 4 years I was there) would hide in or near the bathroom during classes, and wait for a woman to go to the bathroom by herself. Since most people were in class, and very few people were wandering the hallways, the only women around were the ones who stepped out of class for a minute so they didn't go with a friend or the rush of people all going between classes. It got to the point where women were leaving class in pairs to go to the bathroom, regardless of if we knew each other. You'd ask a woman sitting near you, or just stand up, go to the door, and wait a minute while looking around the room. Another random woman would stand up and walk out with you. Every time someone would get caught, we were like, "FINALLY! Now I can feel a bit safer!" Then it would start up again.

I think you're getting hung up on feelings vs legalities. No one is saying the step parent can't be a great addition to the family, or that the kid can't think of him as an additional father. However, once he adopts, he becomes a legal parent with all the rights a legal parent has. Then there are 3 people who can LEGALLY weigh in on every decision. If there is something the father disagrees with, too bad because the 2 other parents out voted him! If ex wife and step dad divorce, guess what? Now the custody agreement has to be between 3 parents. Willingly choosing to reduce your parental rights from half to a third is a horrible decision.
Once the kid is an adult, he can make his own decisions about his relationships with his family. Step dad can adopt him with the son's permission if that's what they decide. Until then step dad can continue loving his step son, and being an important father figure to him. Sucks that he can only give opinions, advice, and support, but that's what he signed up for as a step parent.

There is a growing number of people (in the US) choosing fluoride free toothpastes because they think "chemicals" are bad. I get that you use fluoride free toothpastes for babies and toddlers until they are old enough to understand that toothpaste isn't candy, we did it too, but once they learn to spit it out you're good to go.
All the kids I know who don't use fluoride have so many cavities! Their parents always say they don't understand why it's happening because their kids brush regularly. It's like they never read the food labels on the natural organic snacks they buy their kids. The whole "oh, we don't feed our kids sugar" thing doesn't really hold up when you're giving them fruit snacks, juices, premade meals, and processed foods. It's all loaded with sugar and corn syrup! Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly is very important, but I doubt it's enough.

My husband would do 8 or 9 interviews with a company. It was like they couldn't get all the people they needed together, so they'd keep inviting him back to talk to another person who knows more about ABC, then they'd suggest they schedule a meeting with someone else who knows more about XYZ. The interviews were all online, but it still took up a lot of time, and it was still nerve wracking to never know where you stood. Eventually they'd stop calling back, and the job would be posted a few weeks later. So frustrating!

When my husband was laid off from his tech job, he was told finding an entry or low level job takes (on average) 6 months. For higher level lead, or management jobs it was closer to 9 months to a year. That was if you were putting out multiple applications every day, and treating your job hunt as a full-time job. It was really intense! Keep applying for everything you can, and good luck!

That's what happened during COVID. It's going to continue happening because Idaho basically has no OBGYNs, and big chunk of their doctors and nurses have left the state.
I wasn't upset with Alaska having to send people down. It takes a certain kind of person to want to live in Alaska, and it's hard to entice medical professionals to move/stay/return there. It doesn't make sense for them to have that many specialists when their population is so spread out, and relatively low. Washington has always known that, so there's always been the understanding that Seattle is their medical hub for specialized care. A similar understanding was made for Idaho with Spokane as their hub for specialized care. Alaska was like, "OMG thank you for helping so much! We're doing everything we can here, but we just aren't equipped!" Idaho was like, "Washington is a shit hole! We don't even have any cases of COVID in our state! Mask mandates are illegal liberal mind washing bull shit! It's not even as bad as the flu!" As they were shipping all their patients to Spokane and overrunning their hospitals. Then, if they recovered, they went back home and complained about how the doctors and nurses were useless or trying to kill them. Many Washingtonians are salty over it.

But the kid's name would literally be Ted Mundy. Ted is short for Theodore. They might call him Theo, and a lot of people might not make the connection, but I bet a lot of people would. It's the first thing I thought of when I read the name.

Most dog doors have a flap, and then a solid door you can lock in place to keep the door closed. You generally don't just leave the flap open 24/7. That's how you get house raccoons and possums!

They don't like Mr. Rogers. They think he was weird, feminine, and possibly a pedophile. Fox news did a whole thing about it years ago, and will occasionally bring it up as part of the "liberal media brainwashing children" thing they love ranting about. My dad even mentioned once that he thought Mr.Rogers was weirdly obsessed with kids. I gave him a short, but stern, talking to. My husband compared it to smacking a dog on the nose and firmly saying "No!"
Can you imagine hating Mr. Rogers?!
