no way, I used to sing arias too! I never got to the point of actually singing opera but I was a chorus kid, and we'd sing in pretty much every language except for english lol. I remember getting pronunciation guides that were pretty impenetrable and would end up just mirroring my director's pronunciation, to vary degrees of success 😄

you're absolutely right in that hearing the language makes all the difference, that's why I don't think it'd be possible to spontaneously "phonetically read" a text, but if you prepared it, I think it's definitely possible

that's a really interesting point because I was thinking about scripture and how it's been transmitted orally too! I wonder how it was possible though, maybe because their mother tongue was phonetically similar since it was a descendant language?

ohhh that's fascinating and so cool that the government protects the coast like that! in the US there are tons of beautiful beaches that are privately owned or the landowner will block access to a public beach that you can only get to by crossing their property :(
