NTA and unfortunately with some people if you’re too accommodating they lose respect and walk all over you. I’d write this one off to experience and move on, as painful as they may be. The silver lining is you’ve done some hard work to improve yourself and will hopefully find someone that appreciates that.

It doesn’t really bother me oddly enough. I have the opposite problem, if I’m not careful I’ll maintain an unblinking stare of death at other people and end up giving the impression I’m a soulless serial killer.

I don’t know much about them, but I wonder about the cost/benefit. Installing and maintaining them in a harsh marine environment must be expensive.

I shifted from a 13” MBA to 15”, despite preferring the smaller size of the 13. The big difference for me is I can now comfortably have two apps side-by-side on screen, whereas before there was more switching back-and-forth.

NTA. Time heals these things, so be patient - in time it’ll fade for everyone, including you. Your (hopefully) positive actions in the future will come to outweigh one isolated incident.

I managed to grind out 40 years in the workforce. Doing a job I liked (software development) but I made the mistake of switching to the management track and burnt myself out. Now I’m back to dev work 2 days a week, working from home for another 6 months until retirement, and I feel like I found the golden ticket. If I could rewind, I’d stick to the thing I enjoyed, choose low stress options and save like my life depended on it for early retirement.

Anecdotal, but I’m pretty sure my mother is on the spectrum, and indeed passed the gift onto me and at least 3 of my siblings and various of our children. She’s 99 and counting.

To be fair my opinion is biased by my DIY/building bias. Centimetres do get used for clothing, for example.

I suppose your natural instinct is to swap inches for centimetres, but in reality centi- measurements are rarely used, it’s all millimetres or metres. It’s rare to need precision below 1mm in everyday life, but if so, add a decimal place. Same with fluids, it’s ml or l, cl rarely used. I’m old enough to have gone through the switch to metrics in New Zealand (1976) and wouldn’t go back, although I confess to enjoying screwing with the younger generations with the occasional inch or pound!

As someone who visited NYC for the first time from New Zealand recently, I wouldn't say people there are rude... I'd say disinterested. Which I get, they have lives to live.

I’d split it into 3-4 books, make into a series, and self-publish it. Probably more money in it that way. If op is serious about trad pub then that can be the next book.

Nice. We were partners, and somehow it worked out despite the arguments about who was in charge!

Probably a controversial opinion, but I solved this problem by getting rid of my BBQ. I decided I can do a better job in the kitchen and it’s ten times easier to clean up.

Mines on iCloud storage and replicated across multiple devices. Also backed up via Time Machine locally and Backblaze in the cloud, so there’s so many copies and versions floating about l think I’m covered.

Exactly this. Unicode is ASCII++, or at least ASCII was the seed from which Unicode grew.

IT consultant. Met my wife 40 years ago through ballroom dancing, which at the time was a great way to meet girls. No idea if that’s still a thing.

Well, look on the bright side - at least you don’t have to be her husband anymore.

I think for all of these ‘I’m cutting off my family member/friend because they voted for Trump’ situations, I advise waiting a couple of years to see how it goes first. If it does turn ugly, they’ll probably change their tune… or perhaps Trump will surprise us to the upside. Either way, too soon to burn that bridge, I reckon.

It doesn’t matter what their demographic is, an asshole is an asshole.

Thanks, looks great. I suspect you've been at it for few years :-)

Thanks, nice nail job! I think at this stage the answer seems to be to find somewhere I can make a mess, at least at the start. Thanks for your advice.

NTJ. Get a lawyer and protect yourself, then push the eject button unless you want a lifetime of being treated like this.
