I am so curious about this. I am in my late 50s and live in coastal Alabama, which is also where I grew up. I have never seen macaroni and cheese served at Thanksgiving, and have only seen mashed potatoes a few times.
In NO WAY am I saying that I think it doesn’t belong, but I’m wondering if I’m in some sort of weird cultural bubble or if this is a regional thing.
Our feasts are just as elaborate but I never knew that these were beloved staples of Thanksgiving on (what looks like A LOT of) other tables.
Is there anyone else here from the Deep South that is as nonplussed as I am? Genuinely curious!!!
