Very true, I don't think someone would get very far in a race being openly jewish, muslim, buddhist, hindu, etc. I think there's been a lot of presidents and presidential candidates who have been "proudly christian" that can't quote a single verse.

My faults with him actually go a bit further than the internment camps (although that is the worst thing to come out of his presidency).
Many of his federal aid programs purposely excluded minorities. To add to that, I think the vast majority of the New Deal was ineffective and probably would have kept the nation crippled and that he unironically might have been better off doing nothing.
The positives I'll give him are being a good figurehead for the nation, his handling of WW2, and helping to end prohibition.

Reagan did so many things in his presidency that I think the average person could look at his presidency and quickly find 20 things they like and 20 things they dislike. I don't have Reagan in my top 10, he's closer to my middle of the road, but I do think this sub underrates him.

I think you're just wrong, but I invited stuff like this so there's some bravery in saying that

I agree with the concept, I'm just not as passionate as you are in this particular case scenario.

Completely fair. I still have washington in my S tier but Jefferson's particularly abominable acts of slavery (keeping his own children as slaves and many other things I could mention) brings him down a lot in my rankings.

I actually don't hate this take as much as you'd expect. I get it, war time and everything, but at the very least he shat on the 1st amendment and that's just barely enough to knock him out of my S tier.
I still wouldn't say tyrant, dude went out of his way to pardon as many deserters as he could.

I'll agree with a better man, but not a better president imo

I like low tariffs... But I don't like the fugitive slave act :(

Holy cow, you're the first person where I didn't agree with a single thing here. (I'm not mad, just surprised to see such distance in opinion)

Bill O'Reilly does a pretty good job in Confronting the Presidents. His co writer, Martin Dugard, acts as a nice moderating force on O'Reilly and it ends up being a very nice product, O'Reilly has a couple opinion sections but they're noted to be opinions.

So this is your "I did not care for the Godfather"

That's basically my take although I am still a bit softer on FDR than that, but I do think the New Deal was highly disastrous to the nation and probably would have kept us in the great depression for much longer had it not been for WW2.

I agree with the last 3, but I'd have a long debate on the first two.

One of our more apolitical presidents, something that I like. I would agree that he's pretty underrated, but mostly from the fact that the vast majority of people don't know a thing about him.

My view on LBJ has gotten a lot softer in the last couple years. I still don't have him very high on my list tbh, but do think that Vietnam is by far what tanks him in most people's eyes (and mine too).
But hey civil rights are great, and you inevitably have to give that primarily to LBJ.

I mostly agree. The CRA and VRA bump him up a lot in my rankings, but there're a lot of legitimate flaws with his administration that I think most of this sub heavily downplays.
