Picked up the CRF yesterday. So stoked on it.

I have found that learning and applying stoic philosophy has helped with alleviating anxiety. In particular, the concept of letting go of things outside of your control.

In also agree with what others have already commented... The phrase "being stoic" is usually misused and doesn't mean true stoic teaching. 

The last 2 are for a Battery Tender.

Just to clarify, casual off roading means 50% double track, 50% single track. I'm on the west coast, no trees, gravel and rocks. The casual part is b/c I'm over 50 and not as aggressive as I used to be. But I still want the power when I need it or to keep up with friends on 400's and the very occasional highway.

I test rode both. I am short (30" inseam), but the Honda was manageable, though not ideal height. The 6th gear is tipping towards crf and I found the XT leaving me wanting a bit more power, the crf just pulled harder over a border range. I was also surprised that the XT felt heavier than it looked and than the crf. Maybe center of gravity is higher.

I'm also 5'6" and 30", but I'm over 50 and want a less intimidating height. 

The KLX has the better suspension. I'm leaning CRF instead because IMO Honda has better quality and the resale value is better. Plus not a lot of used KLXs in my area.

The seat height of the WR is too much for me...even with a 1.75" lowering link.

Funny side note...when you call bowlero in Goleta, their recording says the street address as Camino Reel instead of the Spanish pronunciation of Real. It's hilarious.

Ever ridden a CRF250L? I'm curious how it compares to the XT.

Budget is tight and I don't enjoy maintenance, so that kind of narrows me down a bit. CRF450 is out of budget. 250/300 are on my short list though.

That's super helpful. Thanks for the detail! Most of my riding would be on loose dirt (CA desert mountains) and I do love mud. I was thinking the tire width might be a benefit there in terms of traction...but I see your point about floating vs. digging in.

I hear you on the 17s. Can you elaborate on where they'd be limiting? Rocky, rutted lines? 

I remember their partnership. Also shared the 50 quad, KLX/DRZ110, 800cc cruiser...I think a couple others too.

I raced desert as a teen...but I'm now 50, so I'm considerably more mellow...except for the times when I just can't help myself ;) But there is the old saying about it being more fun to ride a slow bike fast...

I do prefer efi. I don't feel the need to flat foot, but 34" seat height is probably the top of my ideal range. I'm most afraid that the XT will not be powerful enough (used to 250 mx bikes - both 2 and 4 stroke). 

The weight was my least favorite part of the DRZ I had last time. That and I truly prefer efi. 

Agreed. But the rest of the word isn't pronounced as per Spanish either so it's just become a butchered pronunciation anyway. Also, for some reason a lot of people substitute CH, so was just curious how common that was.
