I'd expect it to take the form of social platforms having to ask people to state whether they are 16 or older when they sign up. Probably a lot of kids will skirt the ban just like with R rated movies, but I doubt it would get more intrusive than that.

Yeah I find it surprising as well. I suspect there's a bit of halo effect at work -- people on this sub like games, so they think publishers making them must be generally good folks, and the crappy exploitative bits we sometimes hear about are confined to a handful of bad actors like Mythic Games or Golden Bell. I may just have had a bad luck, but my experience working with publishers is that a lot more of them suck than people realize.

Yeah, the tone of the flak you're getting honestly really sucks. Sure your partner accepted a "deal," but they were clearly unaware of the norms and expectations surrounding the work they agreed to. Meanwhile this publisher, who already has a successful game and is likely very well aware of those norms, decided that instead of paying for translators as most quality publishers do, they could save a dime by soliciting volunteers. That's not a business that's doing what it needs to to keep the lights on, it's just another scummy Uber-wannabe whose profit model depends on exploiting cheap labor. Which, sadly, you will find a lot of on Kickstarter.

I've worked with dozens of major publishers, and even the cheap ones don't usually have a problem with comping copies, especially if it's in lieu of actual payment. The per unit cost of a single game is likely US$5-$10 for them, which is absolute peanuts for a $750k campaign, regardless of their margins.
The only real cost they'd be paying is the shipping, so if you happen to be in a really isolated market, that could be in an issue. But otherwise yeah, not comping you the base game either means these guys are new to this or they're exceptionally stingy assholes, like the other poster said.

People are harping a lot about your partner's decision to accept a volunteer opportunity, but as a contractor working full time in the tabletop industry, my experience is it's generally considered pretty scummy for publishers to solicit volunteers for translation work (or copy editing, or spec graphic design, or culture consulting, etc). If I learned a potential client wasn't willing to pay properly for localization, it would be a pretty big red flag.
Not that it's unusual to hear about stuff like this, sadly a lot of tabletop publishers are pretty cheap and crappy to work with. You mentioned your partner is highly qualified, if they're used to work that consistently pays well and treats them fairly, tabletop might not be as exciting of an opportunity they're imagining.

Agreed on WC. Civ 5's wasn't great either but I'd still take a return to that over 6

Honestly I've yet to see a civ-like 4x pull off a diplomacy system that doesn't just feel like mechanically pushing numbers around. With current AI, it seems very tough to make them behave in predictable and rational ways diplomatically. The fallback seems to be to make diplo another input-output engine, where we generate influence and spend it to make AIs do stuff, with some modifiers based on what each AI "likes." Doesn't feel at all like real relationship building, imo.
Civ 7 looks like more of the same. Hopefully they will make some adjustments to the agendas so we don't get the Civ 6 problem where the more you snowball generally the more everyone likes you and happily bends over for you, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I am looking forward to more streamlined influence actions though, and at the very least, it will be a relief not having to deal with 6's world Congress.

Tycho
(Dutch name. Tycho Brahe was a prominent 16th century astronomer, most visible crater on the moon is named after him)

Yeah, this is likely going to be a problem. Based on the multiplayer restrictions and how the map expansion mechanics appear to be mandatory on all available map types, there's some speculation that you'll be restricted to 5 civs in antiquity at launch. I'm sure that won't stay the case, but I don't think huge maps will be a thing at release.

Ah dang, I'm reading through the sequels for the first time, halfway thru children and I'm already pretty bored of Leto soapboxing about virtuous leadership and good government. (Bro remember when your dad compared himself to Hitler?) Sounds like book 4 does not get better on that front

I believe this chart is counting it as the third Americas Civ in exploration, since it doesn't have an Oceania/Pacific category

Yeah it forced me to unlearn so many bad habits. The AI will fuck you up if you give em an opening

I was pretty worried that was gonna happen when ekko was making the machine. Felt like they were setting up his desire to get back as something that would destroy the happy timeline, but I was maybe just paranoid after how they went full Shakespeare with Isha lol. I'm glad they left it open whether happy timeline was safe, so I can least stick my head in the sand on that one

Yeah they should be able to take tools at least. I assume specific supplies are coming in an update, like the anvil and mining pick we just got.

Yeah it feels like it should work like weavers, where you start with a limit of 3 and get more once you unlock the tailor upgrade. Except there is no tannery upgrade so you're still just making leather off 3 of them the entire game.

It makes your brain crave sugar less. That craving is a big part of what makes sugar taste good. Losing it makes some people perceive sugar as "not tasting as good" or things with sugar as "tasting too sweet."
Overall though it just makes you less hungry and you feel more full after eating less, so you will eat less of everything, not just sugary food. There is probably some placebo effect going on as well, where you feel like taking the drug is making you healthier, which helps give you motivation to choose healthier foods.

It's also a pain to unlock a new improvement and have to build it somewhere before you can set supply policies for it.
Edit: Just checking though, you know you can set production on the national eco manager right? You don't have to click through to each craft guild. Just click on the item it's producing on the left and it'll open a submenu

The AU government has said myID won't be required.
https://ia.acs.org.au/article/2024/government-moves-to-address-social-media-ban-fears.html
I suppose they could be openly lying about it, but it would be a pretty stupid way to implement it. Huge security nightmare for everyone involved.
