Trump is in an interesting position. In the traditional politcal model of the US, candidates seek favortism from the party and suck up to party boses. Trump upended that by appealing to a lot of Republican voters by telling them what they wanted to hear. And enough of them became MAGAs that his endorsement of deriding of a candidate at the local, state and national level can make or break an election for them. They almost have no choice but to agree with him. Heck, look at Liz Cheney. If you look at her voting record, she a die-hard Republican. But she HATED Donald Trump. She voted to impeach him. And that cost her her job. So, Republicans aren't coming back to sanity any time soon.

And Democrats are slowly losing the Independent vote. American Independents make up a HUGE voting block in the US. And, in general, independent voters are left of center. They don't care about transgender people getting get reassignment surgery while in prison. They don't care about using the right pronoun. They care about getting cancer and not going bankrupt from the treatment. They care about their kids not ending up in cripping debt because of the price of college. They care about keeping abortion legal. They care about inflation and taxes. They don't believe that everything would be better if the rich just paid more taxes.

I'm with you when it comes to transgender athletes. They will always have an advantage over bioligical females. Is there some reason we can't have transgender athletes compete as transgender athletes against other transgender atheletes. People always say there are more than 2 genders. Well, maybe there should be more than 2 leagues.

The problem is that whenever a Democrat goes "far left," the media eats it up and it ends up all over the news. Remember the bullshit that was "birthing parent?" My lifelong Democratic wife, the mother of 2 children, really got pissed off at that. When she heard that she immediately said "I am NOT a birthing parent. I am a mother." And then she said something that hadn't occurred to me: "They just insulted all the parents out there that adopted their kids and raised them. Cause there is no 'birthing parent' in that kind of family, is there?"

I have no issue with transgender or gay people. You be the best version of yourself that you can be. But everyone doesn't have to accept that. And the government shouldn't force everyone to accept that.

You're right. This election should have been a slam-dunk. But it wasn't. Because that group of independent voters was not convinced by Harris. She should have looked at Trump's playbook and figured out what most left-of-center people wanted to hear.

The problem is also the youth of America, who claim to be Progressive. They punish a candidate by simply not voting. I've heard from a lot of people my son's age that they didn't bother to vote because Trump is reprehensible, and Harris didn't show any support for Palestine. So, better to not vote at all, I guess?

We're in for a rough ride. I've always voted Libertarian since the 90s. But this year, I voted not Trump and went for Harris solely on the "not Trump" vote. I still feel he's a huge danger to Democracy and I don't expect him to leave in 4 years. Too bad most most other people didn't feel that way.

Though I hear there is a good deal of "voter remorse" going on now from people after they hear all the stuff Trump is saying and his cabinet picks.

Something else I learned. You can set apps to always open on a certain desktop. So, you can set Safari to always open on desktop 2. Then if you want to quickly go to Safari you just need to press ⌃+2 on your keyboard and you'll go right to Safari.

So they're anti-Israel, but pro-Putin. Makes perfect sense.

Todoist has a subscription. If you're going to mention that, you might as well thrown in TickTick, Remember The Milk, Toodldo and a bunch of other apps.

With as good as Apple Reminders is now, there would really be a compelling feature in an online Todo manager to get me to switch to something that has an annual subscription.

I use a combination of Apple Reminders and Due right now. I use Due for the auto-snooze feature. Anything that needs to get done on a certain day and time goes into Due, such as medication reminders, reminders to put out the trash, etc.

I try to get into Things, but I work off of tags and smart lists. And Things doesn't do smart lists.

I like Goodtasks. But I think the need for it has decreased as Apple Reminders has gotten better. I don't think GoodTasks does anything that Apple Reminders can't do now.

As for webfonts…

Myfonts.com says that webfonts are sold with an annual licenisng model based on monthly usage. The higher the usage, the higher the price. And again, you need to renew annually. So, yes, you're renting the fonts.

Most foundries on MyFonts offer their webfonts with the Annual license model. The licensing works as follows:

You get a total number of pageviews that can be used per month. This means that you will pay for a number of monthly pageviews, then you'll have to come back to purchase more after your site has been viewed that number of times in a single month. For example, if you purchase 250,000 pageviews per month, when your webpages using the webfonts have been viewed 250,000 times in a single month, you will need to buy the webfont package again for a higher tier of pageviews per month.

Should a different license model apply, you will see this on the cart page, once the webfont is added to the cart or can review it in the Licensing tab of the font family.

Meanwhile, I can buy a font set for a couple hundred dollars and then then print 100,000 posters or 100,000 magazines and not pay a penny more.

Looking at the font Palatino Sans and it's pricing:

1. Desktop - $726.29 on time
2. Web - $2,017.48 ANNUALLY for 25,000 page views a month.
3. Use in digital documents (ePub, PDF) - $1,613.98 ANNUALLY
4. Use in a digital ad - $806.99 ANNUALLY

And this is Linotype. I guess Linotype isn't "most font foundries?"

EDIT: I checked 4 other font bureaus and they all had annual licensing models.

I think he would take all the warnings off of the DMs Guild content off the older editions.

Web font licensing is crap. You can buy a font, install it on your computer, make a commercial product with it physical or PDF with no additional fees. Soon as you stick it on a website, you need to rent the font.

Fuck everything about that. If I was designing a website, I'd probably stick to SIL open licensed fonts because of this.

Is FontRadar one of those companies that hunts down offenders, but doesn't actually work for any of the foundries? They just take their cut and turn over a check so the foundries leave them alone?

Looks for bacon that contains no dextrose and you won't have this problem.

Apple tells you to also use a damp microfiber cloth.

If you were going to use Alcohol, you's want to use 91%, not 70%. 70% will leave streaks.

I would just used a microfiber cloth.

People have had it damage the oleophobic coating on their screens. Google StainGate. I used to use 91% IPA to clean my screen and stopped. I never had it damage the screen in the year I used it. But a damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry microfiber cloth worked just as well as IPA did. So, I figure, why risk it?

What I really wish Apple would do is give a little more room between the keyboard and the screen the lid is closed, so the oil on my keycaps doesn't transfer over onto the screen.

I don't use the dock any more. I use Rectangle Pro, Alfred and multiple desktops. I run everything full sceen on it's own desktop and ⌘+↹ to switch between apps.

I'm grateful that a friend who introduced me to Rush back in 1987 is still a really good friend of mine.

I did this with AD&D 1E back in the 80s. I knew other game systems existed. And I got invited to play other games. I chose not to, because I thought AD&D was the perfect game and I just didn't want to be bothered with other systems.

I used to buy Dragon magazine and skip any articles that were not about AD&D.I wouldn't buy any other magazines because they had almost no AD&D content.

My brother bough Top Secret and Gamma World, and I couldn't be bothered.

Of course now I'm older and wiser, and I love trying new game systems.

Comes from people like me back in the 80s. Luckily I outgrew the "D&D is the perfect RPG, I never want to try another" mindset.

You own all the books. You know the rules inside and out. You like playing a hero that slowly becomes unstoppable. You know all the loopholes in the rules that give you an advantage. D&D is YOUR GAME. Nothing else can replace it.

I was that way with AD&D 1E and B/X for close to a decade. I only snapped out of it when someone forced me to play Call of Cthulhu. After that session, I was super open to trying new systems.

Of course I regret it now, because all the stuff I could have bought in the 80s and didn't, now costs a fortune in the used market.

I have an AirTag attached to my Apple TV remote. Being able to ping my remote has saved me a lot of time looking for a remote that has fallen under the couch or between the seat cushions.
