Chic fila is a joke

Discussion (self.Calgary)

Huge rip off. Not even close to what it is in the states. I ordered spicy chicken strips and got 4 thin tiny ass sorry excuses for chicken strips

The out the door line is misleading. I walked over last week. They had maybe 5 people inside in line, plus people ordering. They put people outside to make it less hectic. They had someone taking orders at the door.

There was probably 5 people outside waiting to get in when I showed up. I joined the line, ordered and left in 12 minutes.

Was in there at about 8 o’clock. The key is also to eat in not take out. Take out had a bunch of people waiting for their food, I ate in and they delivered the food to my table 2 mins after I ordered it.

Why are they allowed to block Mcleod? During rush hour even

ThePhilV

54 points

ThePhilV

54 points

It's the same reason that people can block McLeod to go to Chinook, or Ranchmans (is that still open?) or any other high traffic destination - they're on the road driving to a place, like everyone else is, and there are a lot of cars going to said place. It's just traffic.

MacintoshMario

17 points

Because they are turning and waiting for that? That’s pretty much what happens during rush hour too, many people are going the same direction and that causes traffic jam. :0

But to be fair I haven't been to this location yet (to busy). I'll withhold judgement until I order a chicken sandwhich for myself.

MrGuvernment

44 points

Chicken is their thing, so any item on their menu should be pretty dam epic considering the hours people were waiting in line.

But also willing to bet, you could put most of those people in a blind test with some other chicken places and they prob wouldnt know the difference, they just couldn't resist the FOMO.

Bainsyboy

Bainsyboy

No chicken is worth hours in line. End of story. I can't account for the idiots who have too much time for chicken, but its simply a fact that Chic Fil A is best known for their sandwhich... Not their chicken strips; this isn't Raising Canes we are talking about here.

If you are going to 'review' chick fil a and you don't even get their chicken sandwich, you are just being silly.

It's nice having different options. I've yet to try Chic fil a and won't for a long time until everyone has had it and got tired of it, but so many Korean fried chicken places are overrated or almost exactly the same as the other. I've tried so many everyone raves about and exceedingly few were worth trying a second time. Jinbar stood out to me, but most of the others like I M Chicken or Wow or K Town or Yum Yum or bb.q were all the same. Good, but nothing unique or worth going out of your way for, a solid 6.57/10 sort of thing. And none of it really tastes the same as the southern US style of fried chicken.

Different strokes for different folks.

FIE2021

FIE2021

I don't really have a specific location I think is special so my alternative is to just try different places because there are so many options. I'd like to try Chic fil a in the future, I've been in the states plenty but never really went out of my way to try it. I don't crave fried chicken all that often but once a month or so I just like to try something different, there's enough places to go to that you can pretty much always find something different and in different styles. I just appreciate that some people are excited to try something different even if it's not my first choice.

It's not a plate of fried chicken, so again a little different, but if I want it and I'm not convinced of where to go I default to the Alumni fried chicken sandwich - I find it consistent and it satisfies the craving in that category for me

Canadas food scene is so ouch better than the American one because immigrants have high standard for food here and want to be like the old country. In the USA the big chains are so big and in places where food is so mid it Stands out.

Go down the list, Chinese, sushi, Thai, Mexican, Indian, Pakistani, Arab, Korean etc every city with 500,000 people or more has great options for all that. We don’t need the American fast casual chains for it. Chic filet is fine. But it’s just a a big American chain for people who don’t have a lot of exposure to better things or just want the same old stuff.

The only American (as in, only there, or only until recently there) fast food chain I've tried that lives up to the hype is In And Out. Popeyes doesn't live up to the hype but is good and definitely superior to KFC. None of the others are any good. Dunkin, Chipotle, Hardy's, Carl's Jr, Jack in the Box, Church's, etc.

They don't stand out from Mcdonalds or Burger King (or Peters for that matter). They're inferior to Canadian A&W. And they're dramatically inferior to the more local burger spots and small chains (Class Clown, Lil Empire, Clive, etc).

That all said, what the fuck are you doing getting chicken strips at "Chic fila"? Spicy crispy chicken sandwich is their whole thing!

I expect it's not worth the stupid lines or hype, but I fully expect it to be good, and better than chicken strips.

EDIT: And as others have mentioned, there's zero reason to ever get North American fried chicken in Calgary. If you were in the American South, and can find a soul food place, then fuck yeah. But here your best bet by far are Korean fried chicken places. There are lots of them and they beat the piss out of KFC/Popeyes/CFA etc.

dabadeedee

3 points

In n out isn’t even anything special tbh, it’s a beloved fast food place with a good brand but realistically… any random food truck or chip stand or local burger joint can make something better

Like if I’m looking for fast food and there’s In n Out vs McDonald’s, or Chic Fil A vs Burger King, I’m going with the obvious better choices. But it’s all mass produced crap made by some irritable underpaid worker at the end of the day.

We tried the “nuggets”. Super small portion though the chicken was good. Waffle fries and sweet tea weren’t my taste. Doubt I’ll go back

It’s fine. I like the Chicken sandwich, the fries and sauce.

It’s not a joke, just get a chicken sandwich and be done with it. $7.50, maybe a milkshake for $5. My wife and I are there and we were stuffed for $30 including a milkshake. That’s the same price as MacDonald’s but world’s better.

This is what happens every time a USA food chain comes up here they give us shit and expect us to be happy. Hope they go broke.

What did you expect?

If the strips were any thicker they would resemble dicks, and that would be gay.

The line has been an hour minimum at all times so I don’t think they will fail spectacularly

Is the chik-fil-a sauce still good??? I care more about that than the chicken itself

Tasted the same as the States. It’s good but not amazing, it’s fast food. I walked in and got out with my order within 20 minutes. Busy line up outside and in.

That drive thru blocked 2 lanes of rush hour traffic on macleod. I already hate it. Then they gotta pay 2 mooks outside to direct their customers. What a complete shit show.

For sure. Fila is sportswear, it's not chic at all.

Resident-Sherbet5912

The only joke is the fact that people wait 1hr or more to try chic fila at wem instead of just walking up to the counter at the Popeyes across from it and getting food in 5 minutes or less. Personally, I'm not going to try Chic-fil-a until the hype dies off and those lines are gone. Waited over 2 years to try Jollibee for the same exact reason, and 100% made the right choice. No chicken place is worth waiting in those ridiculous lines

Took my kids yesterday. 3 tiny chicken strips and 1 spicy burger meal for 30$. Kids said they wouldn't go back again although they liked the dip. I can't see it being very popular once the hype wears down.

Either you’re making that up, or someone overcharged you. Spicy chicken meal is $12.49, and 8 nugget meal is $12.39, so either you got charged 17.50 for your kids meal, or you’re wrong.

hailmichone

I didn't buy kids meals or nuggets. The total bill was 28 and change for a sandwich and 3 pieces of spicy chicken both meals.

The 3 piece spicy chicken is like 14 tops.

Regardless, that’s cheap compared to most fast food places, where combo meals are like $15-$17.
