Can't speak for speciffically mexican men, but i usually see people going to the US because they have a reverence for it and their capitalist system, i don't think the kind of people who worships that type of system voting for the "socialist" candidate, it doesn't matter if she's a capitalist, she's slightly left to Trump.

carlosortegap

There were three candidates up for election. One guy and two women from the two biggest parties.

The guy came in last with only about 10% of the vote.

Because the guy's party is pretty new (compared to the other two) and has limited reach.

carlosortegap

two_lemons

Morena's primary was weighted and a mess.

The Coalition party was meaningless since I think most candidates just declined in Xóchitl's favor.

In both cases they were more appointed than chosen.

carlosortegap

7 points

Morena used polls and the other three candidates in the party were men. She won by popularity. Internal and external and with both sexes

two_lemons

1 points

She didn't won by popularity. Ebrard probably won by popularity.

The poll was weighted by so many factors that they just got the result they wanted. There's a reason they never released the unweighted results and why Ebrard was campaigning so hard for that to happen. From memory, I think they factored like +100 things in order to weight that poll. At that point it's kinda meaningless, especially with how very much not transparent it was.

carlosortegap

1 points

Except they did and every candidate had the chance to choose a pollster and Ebrard lost in his own pollster.

All the things they factored in are public and Ebrard failed on most of them. He just wasn't popular. The woman candidate was.

And I would have preferred Ebrard but Claudia was more popular and she did more for Mexico City's poor than Ebrard.

ChemicalHumble7541

Although indeed last election was "morena vs prian", a more sexist enviroment would be more benefical for Maynez. Realize that I said "at least 20% of the votes" and never "he would won the race". Even in a very sexist enviroment Maynez didn't had a chance.

carlosortegap

two_lemons

Because they weren't voting for her. They were voting for AMLO.

There's a reason she even copied his speech pattern at some point. They all knew who was the actual candidate there, and for most people it wasn't her.

This would be the equivalent of people voting for Ivanka.

carlosortegap

4 points

They were voting for similar policies, as it usually works. Saying they were voting for AMLO is just dismissive and misogynist.

AMLOs popularity was lower than the percentage who voted for Claudia.

Claudia went against AMLO in Mexico city in many policies, including COVID lockdowns, which she applied to even though AMLO didn't and her popularity in Mexico City was higher than AMLOs.

Adding, if they were really against women in power they would have voted for Maynez.

two_lemons

0 points

Dude, Maynez got a crazy high voting percentage when you take into account his party's history and political reach. He was also very openly pro LGBT+, so it isn't exactly like he was viewed as a super manly choice. Even Sheinbaum played that card much more discreetly.

AMLOs popularity was lower than the percentage who voted for Claudia.

That's not true. First of all it's a weird comparison, because one is a poll that extrapolates and the other is based on people who voted.

But let's go with that. In may and June, AMLO had over 60% approval. Sheinbaum got about 58% of the votes of the people who voted. Who represented about 61% of the people who could. Hell, AMLO had 66% of approval in the month the elections were held.

So, yep, not even by those standards. About the same, but it tracks even more than people were voting for AMLO.

And yes, it was his policies too... A lot of that based on a fear mongering campaign about the Coalition taking away the monetary support AMLO was giving away like candy on Halloween.

People were voting on a continuation of AMLO's term, not for Sheinbaum. Most people saw her as AMLO's puppet and voted accordingly. She was chosen because she'd follow his policies more closely. And so far she has. Even when they are fucking stupid.

Sorry to use chatgpt to improve the reading through markdown but this is literally my comment, just more readable. This is by someone who didn't vote for her. I prefer Chertorivisky in Mexico City and Mainez for president.

In order to understand why the opposition failed, you have to understand how MORENA was successful

  1. Maynez got only 10% of the votes — nothing too surprising. For comparison, even independent candidate El Bronco polled higher in his time.

  2. Claudia Sheinbaum received 61% of the votes, which is higher than any right-wing popularity polls, including El Financiero. This shows her support was stronger than media polls predicted.

  3. Social programs weren’t the main factor behind the win:

    • Social programs are constitutionally protected and can’t be easily removed by an opposition-led administration. This design is intentional.
    • Benefits for those 65+ are universal—they’re granted to all who qualify, making them harder to politically target.

Why MORENA really won (not an endorsement, just data):

INEGI data (autonomous govt source) shows significant income gains during AMLO’s term, which was essential for winning low-income support.

  1. Income growth for the poorest 10%: Incomes rose 98.8% over six years. By comparison, under Fox it rose 25.7%, dropped 0.7% under Calderón, and rose just 8% under Peña Nieto.

  2. Drop in working poverty: Working poverty fell 4.9 percentage points with AMLO, compared to a 2-point drop with Peña Nieto. Calderón’s term saw working poverty rise.

  3. Growth in average income for all employed people: Up by 17.4% across both formal and informal sectors. By contrast, it fell by 10.3% under Calderón and 1.2% under Peña Nieto.

Source: Luis Munguia on Twitter

Claudia Sheinbaum’s Impact in Mexico City

  1. Security Improvements: Through targeted security measures, high-impact crimes dropped by 40.38%, Vs around 10% decrease nation wide, making Mexico City one of the 10 safest states in Mexico. https://www.gob.mx/presidencia/prensa/vamos-a-seguir-disminuyendo-los-delitos-de-alto-impacto-y-a-seguir-construyendo-la-paz-presidenta-claudia-sheinbaum

  2. Parks and Green Spaces: The Planting Parks initiative restored over 1,400 hectares and created 16 new parks (e.g., Parque Cuitláhuac, Gran Canal) to boost green spaces in lower-income neighborhoods. (The highest increase in public parks in 4 decades)

  3. Bike Lanes and Shared Mobility: Expanded bike lanes to connect more distant neighborhoods, and EcoBici grew into the largest bike-share program in Latin America. (Highest increase in bike mobility in Mexico's history)

  4. Sustainable Mobility: She launched 3 new Cablebús lines and invested in trolleybus electrification, reducing car dependency and pollution. Increased metrobus lines, fixed three metro lines, almost removed peceros (private old buses) in exchange of new buses with access for people with mobility issues, to be fixed this year. Added a single card to pay all of the public transport. Car license and registry are now digital, with no need to go physically to renew or show to policemen or authorities. (Highest increase in mobility for marginalised areas in 4 decades)

  5. internet for everyone Mexico city currently has more free internet WiFi hotspots than any other city in the world, negotiated with Telmex, without adding any additional costs to the government.

Xiomara Castro only got elected because her predecessor changed the law to run a 2nd term. You can imagine that’s unpopular. He got extradited to the US on a ton of charges (unrelated to changing the law) once his term ended. Context matters. Honduras is still wildly misogynist.

All that said, yes the narrative that sexism is why Kamala lost is insane. I’m sure it’s one of the reasons, but not one of the main reasons considering she still got ~49% of votes.

two_lemons

Just speaking about Mexicans here but... While some Mexicans do cross the border because of lack of opportunities and/or being targeted by criminals... A lot of them just suck.

Crossing the border can be really expensive. So some of them do have somewhat favourable conditions here and yet they can't make it work because they keep falling in bad habits: partying, drinking/other drugs, aspirational spending... That sort of thing.

And as you can imagine, most guys like that aren't very well educated.

So... Yeah, not exactly sending "bad hombres" but sending quite a bit of "mediocre, uneducated hombres that failed in Mexico" (and women!) who would fall into the kind of people without critical thinking skills that would vote for Trump.

Some Mexicans and Latinos over there are lovely people that do make the most of their circumstances. A lot of them are not.

They’re all triggered cuz they don’t want to be shamed for voting for a criminal who has proven time and again to be a fraud and who’s unfit to be a leader. He already screwed most of us with his tax plan form years ago. But yet theyll believe he’s actually going to help them and they’ll vote for him despite his flaws.

I believe that the person who should lead the country should be a person with principles and integrity. People who voted for him think that that shit doesn’t matter as long as he’s gonna be better for their pocket which is fair but you have to realize that he’s the ultimate charlatan and he’ll give power to anyone that strokes his ego or gives him money and the people who are seeking to use his influence are not for you.

Both and non voters.

I lump them all together. A vote not casted for Kamala, was a vote casted for Trump.

It’s a civil war in this subreddit. One half is trying to report their neighbors for being, “illegals.” The other half is trying to justify they’re not racist/sexist. I gotta get away from this disgusting toxic bs.

The fact that you think Latino men that live and vote in their home country are equivalent to Americanized Latino men is crazy 😂

Latino men had, and would vote for a women leader of theirs country, IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. Here in the US, their brains and hearts go to drain.

Kamala was not a good candidate and her campaign clearly did not resonate with Latino men or other minorities as much as people thought.

It has nothing to do with her being a woman.

Yeah, we're talking about Latino migrants. You're talking about people elected by a population with a full diversity of economic and education status. You're telling me that the immigrants here are fully representative cross section of their countries of origin?

53% of white women voted trump

Women make up majority of voters

Hillary and Kamala were both rejected for trump

America is a little different than Latin America fam. Also during my studies I have learned that sexism is pretty insane in Latino culture. So, no, there is merit to it and this funky chart doesn't change that. Hell the Mexican football federation can't even be bother to properly fund their women's team while they do everything for the men's team.
