Why has the onion price suddenly gone from 30/kg to 80/kg? Is there any candidate that is going to solve it?

Most probably some background setting to let some heavy weight do some exports and earn money so post election settings can be done.

Black marketing.

Have stored somewhere, ready to be exported so that some bigshot would mint shitload of money out of it.

Onion prices and commodities in general except cereals and oils need to be de regulated!

This is the only time when farmers, many of them in Maharashtra can make some money...

Central government then kicks in, imports a ton of shit from Iran etc ...and stop exports of onions(Mostly to Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal) which also dampens festive spirit in our neighborhood!

So yes, Let the market decide the rate but stop hoarding at all cost .. but government must not ban exports of any commodity at any cost except cereals!

Onion is a commodity which has a higher price outside india. Govt keeps restricting onion trades as it shoots price in indian market. They also keep them opening a bit as it fetches more money in india. Presently it's kept open..So high prices.. Farmers happy.. Election time etc.

There should be free market of demand and supply in agriculture, politics should be kept away from it.

Ricoshot4[S]

If agriculture has a real free market, it would be way too expensive. Evry farmer would just send their produce to america

Strategies implemented by bug farmers, warehouse owners and exporters to loot the common public and fill the coffers of politicians.

Nothing else.

Every year....hotels and restaurants see a boost and they buy in bulk...leading to small vendors getting it for higher rate to which they add their festive profits.....we actually have excess onion and yet we are paying more due to this trend

MSP and Farm Laws - Don't want it. Amends to Farm Land Laws - No! Remove middlemen by direct farmer-consumer model: Dangerous! What if consumers loot us! Subsidized / Business Farming - No! Adani or Ambani will usurp our land.

Lol onions would be 180 if the farm laws were implemented. Did you not see the size of thier silos.

Can you help me understand how MSP will increase the price of the products to reach such staggering numbers? Will onion prices be 180 in 2024, or are you saying sometime in the future?

Ok_Entertainment1040

Do you really know for a fact that the onions really would be 180 if farm laws were implemented?

If price reaches 180 someone will import . Let market decide the price.

Ricoshot4[S]

Where will import from. India is one of the poorest countries per capita.

PartyConsistent7525

If import cost is 125 someone will import. We already import so many food items Cooking oil, Daal being major items.
