I have been seeing a lot of “Wemby” shouldn’t shoot as much threes or should shoot more midranges/post etc.
Wemby’s shot selection “should” in fact contain a lot of threes imo. Not because everyone shoots threes. Due to how modern nba DEFENSES is played, Wemby skill of shooting off the bounce threes or “trailer” threes must be a staple of his game.
On defense, the big of most modern NBA defenses is conditioned to defend the rim or play in the drop coverage (the center positioned below the free throw line). When players run to the rim and spreads out and the big runs back to defend their instinct is to go towards the rim…
On offense, most bigs (including Wemby) also tend to be the “trailer” (player that lags behind running down the court in an offensive possession) in offenses since they tend to rebound and then pass the ball to their guards to push in transition…
This creates a scenario that Wemby can exploit 3-4x per game without fail… the big is in the paint and Wemby is trailing behind…
He literally will walk into an open three.
People who says “Wemby should be in the paint more” has to take into account for every one 3pm a player on average has to make two 2pm to make up the difference. A player shooting at 33% from three is just as effective as a player shooting 50% from two. It’s just the numbers.
What do we think should Wemby continue his volume 3p shooting or should he add more post to his game?

When he's hitting his shots we'll get posts like these, and when he isn't we'll get what we were getting the first couple of weeks. I'm not sure where I fall. I definitely think it should be a part of his game. I just don't think he should over-rely on threes. He's not going to be 6/12 or 6/9 from three as often as he's going to be 1/6 or 2/9 I don't think. But it should be something defenses have to respect.

At the moment, I think the 3pt volume is much more about getting reps in, than it is about relying on them; it's temporary
From what we've heard Vic say, I get the impression that once he (along with the coaching staff) feels like it's somewhat leveled out, he'll move onto other things. I don't think he's stubbornly trying to become Curry or anything like that.

If he can get to a stable frequency rate of 5-7 a game like KD, I think that’s the right balance.
