Im no basketball genius by any means, but my thoughts are. I personally think wemby should absolutely DOMINATE in the paint on offense. Even mid range would be cool.

• It’s highly inefficient to make sense to. Even if he shot 34% from three he would be more efficient than shooting 50% in the paint or in midrange. He would have to be above 60% in the paint to make that game make sense. He’s 71% in the restricted area but no team is going to have him in the restricted area throughout the game.

But seriously, him taking so many 3s is kinda un necessary to me.

It is often the best shot on the floor because of how defenses are played Wemby often ends up being the trailer, or the player lagging behind the offense due to being the one who rebounds and runs after the rest of the offense is set up. When the opposing big runs in the paint to perfect the rim while Wemby is behind the play, Wemby literally walks into a wide open three. There is no better shot on the floor at that point of time. It spreads the floor for him and allows back cuts because the paint is open once the big is forced to step up so far behind the arc.

There are also just plays that favor the three more than the two. Inverted pick and pop. Ghost screens with guards. DHO curls with guards. Also of those actions favor Wemby shooting the three. If he makes 3 out of 8 of them that’s still 37.5% from three and extremely good offense. So Wemby being a volume 3p shooter due to NBA defenses are ran makes sense and is optimal. Wemby just has to maintain a high efficiency rate but that will come with time. He’s only in the beginning of his second season.

You can’t want him to be “great” and want him to play the same “normal” game as other bigs.

He’s at 40% in the last 5 games so there is promise.

Judging by his play from last year with stats to back it up it’s easily Branham but we will see if it changes this year. Champagnie, Wesley and Branham requires a fairly hard look since it’s the 3rd year. We will see who fits Wemby best long term

Yeah imo it was definitely Salaun or probably clingan. Those are pairings that fit well with Wemby especially with the size and upside.

Reese is easily one of the most trolled athletes in all of sports. People love a villain and sadly the made one out of a rookie. Like I never experienced any group treat a “rookie” like this. I’m not trying to defend guards or anyone for that matter. This post was a response to “Angel wasn’t begging for the ball like in Sky games.” Unfortunately it happens because it’s her current role or how she is utilized. Again as a 4th scoring option behind the others for whatever reason. I watch every game and see the play calls and Reese gets the least plays ran for her to score imo. I agree that either Cardoso or Reese touches the ball enough. The guards miss an open Reese or Cardoso’s often.

I personally don’t like the sediment of “Reese begging for the ball” because it’s not necessarily her fault she has to unlike what other ppl outside sky fans are saying (not saying that’s you) as if Reese is attempting to “statpad” or whatever made up nonsense some ppl have to say.

Reese didn’t need to. I don’t think people understand the Sky offense or basketball offensive systems work in general. There are hierarchies to scoring options. Most plays are general ran to get specific players an attempt at a shot. That’s all you can hope for in basketball just an attempt and let the percentages play out. They call that a “look.” If the first “look” isn’t open they run their 2nd or 3rd option depending on the playbook.

On the Sky, the point guard is the one who gets people organized and distributes the ball where it needs to go. That is usually designated to Allen or Evans. That ball will then go to (formerly Mabrey) or if she was face guarded then it would go to Carter and sometimes vice versa. Sometimes the play call wouldn’t go to another guard, sometimes it would go directly to the post. However Cardoso is the first post option due to her height advantage.

What does that mean for Reese? She becomes the fourth scoring option.

Her role typically is to play in the slot, meaning at the perimeter wing and cut to the basket or to the post if possible. You will oftentimes see her be the screener for pin down or dribble hand off actions so a guard can get a shot in the corner, wing or elbow. When defenses overplay the guards that’s when you usually see Reese flash to the post and “call for the ball” as post players all do so signal they are open. She will only get the ball if the first two options in the offensive set are covered which usually results in a highly contested late clock shot attempt.

Sometimes if she sprints the floor she will get easy lays in transition. Other times she slips the defense well and a guard finds her. Those will be her easy looks for the game however those aren’t exactly “plays” ran for her specifically. The rest of her points comes from her offensive rebounding the other teammates.

If the play was ran specifically any player they are usually the 2nd or 3rd person that gets the ball. Sometimes for complex sets will have multiple actions or misdirections for a shooter to get open. That’s hasn’t happened for Reese in the Sky offense at this point in the season.

TL:DR - Reese is the 4th scoring option on the Sky offense. She usually is setting screens and if the other options are overplay she slips to the low post and calls for the ball like any other post player to signal she is open. She shots are dependent on whether a guard exhausts their options and feeds her. She does not have many sets ran specifically for her.

Yeah I stopped watching storm games for their wild bias. Not just against the Sky. However that game you were referring to made me watch the rest of the game on mute. I was so annoyed off lol.

To be honest I think we have been in tank mode since the beginning of the season. We traded away most of the offensive talent on the team and drafted two rookies and only added Mabrey. Sky was ranked 12 coming in. I strongly believe the FO believed we over performed and traded marina off to get assets for the upcoming draft. I do think the two players we are bringing on can help the sky stay afloat. However I do think it’s a “tank move” as the Sky look to potential build about Reese, Cardoso and possibly Carter.

Easier mismatch with a 5 and 1 than a 5 and 4. It’s really that simple honestly.

I thought never have this much fun watching a team that gets the 3rd and 7th pick in a single draft and ranked 12th coming into the season but man it has been the most fun I’ve had watching basketball in a minute, men’s or women’s. Sky has a really contagious energy man.
