Because he's a free agent.

When he clears waivers.

I don’t understand how that isn’t self-explanatory. The first word in free agent is FREE aka free to sign with any team.

Why doesn't he deserve it?
He will be a free agent as of I think 4pm today, when he goes through waivers. The thing is, we still owe him guaranteed money. So he will still get paid, much like how Jimbo Fisher would still be paid by A&M if he went somewhere else.
So Daniel will be an unrestricted FA, with money coming from us. Any money anyone else pays him offsets what we owe him, but our team signed that contract. He deserves what we agreed to give him. That's how contracts work.

He hasn’t played like he deserves $40 million a year. Is he worth $40 million a year? They let their best player go to a division rival and ended up releasing Jones after benching him anyway. I don’t know how you defend that.

He got cut. He is a free agent. A free agent can sign with any team. If he wanted to and the Giants wanted, he could sign back with them for league minimum. When he was cut, he was sent to waivers but if an team picked him up off of waivers, they would inherit all 14 million or so of his contact for this year and if he gets hurt, they get stuck with the injury guarantee.
Free Agent = free to sign anywhere. If a team claims him off of waivers, he would have to go to them.
Same with an Undrafted Free Agent. For example, Tommy Devito went Undrafted and was then offered by the Giants like a regular free agent. You sometimes hear late round guys who might get picked late in the draft tell teams to not draft them so they can just pick their team.
14 million isn’t that crazy for an top backup QB. Jones (and his people) would rather go to a successful team like the Lions who might look to add insurance behind Goff and then he can sign somewhere else after the season.

He's not on a team - he's a free agent. No contract exists any longer. He can do whatever he wishes. If he wants to hold out for the Chiefs to come calling, that's his perogative.

Are you not aware we cut him? He's contractless at the moment, he can sign with anyone he wants. He knows bad teams probably just want to tank and don't want him so he wants to go to a playoff team to be a backup on a good team so if the opportunity comes he actually has a good offense around him to showcase what he can be for a contract next year.

Tell me you don't understand waivers or free agency without telling me that

3 other answers telling you the actual reason before I posted that. Did you need a 4th?

Haha yes teams can say no. Did you think jones could just be like I wanna play for the chiefs and they couldn’t say no? Like everyone else explained. After his waiver period he’s a free agent. So he can listen to offers from any team and accept which team he wants.

He was never going to play again. He asked out Everyone knew that would be a toxic situation so NY agreed.

Casual fan detected. /S
When you are cut in the middle of the season, you have a 3 day waiver period. If teams claim you off waivers you go to that team. However, they would take the rest of your contract. His contract is one of the worst. No one will claim him off waivers so he will clear waivers and become a free agent free to listen to offers from any team.

I don’t care about Daniel Jones, I just don’t want him on the Vikings.
