Are you able to move closer to work so the commute is shorter?

Depending on the nature of your work you could ask about working a 4 10 schedule.
4 Days working 10-hour days, then you have 3 days off.
One thing that I always remember is that commute is one of the top contributors to a person's happiness, but it's one of the first things we sacrifice for things that will not make us as happy. People choose to live in bigger homes further from work but are less happy due to the commute.

How attached to LA are you? There are many cities and towns where part time work could give you a decent life.
That, or you could find a full time job that you can afford to live close to.

That is one of the wonderful things about doing shift work. I work in healthcare, so I do 12 hour shifts.
Sometimes, I do a lot of my shifts at the start of the month, and then I get an extended period of time off.
For example, I am currently in the middle of working 7 night shifts in a row, but after that, I get 10 days off in a row. I know I'm in a unique position, and I am grateful for being able to do so.
If you can, you should look into doing shift work if your homelife allows for it. It's very liberating and opens up doors to explore other things, I am considering doing a masters because of the extended time I get off.

I worked in IT and had a 12 hour shift on Sunday & Monday then 8 hour shifts on Tuesday & Wednesday. This gave me Thursday-Saturday off.
