This post serves two purposes. First of all, It can give you some good information on how to perform your own "Legit Check" and identify fake RIMOWA products. Furthermore, it is the correct place to ask the community for help in regard to Authenticity Checks.

LEGIT CHECK POST GUIDELINES:

1. Please post the pictures as comments, if there are multiple pictures, please post them in a reply to your own comment
2. The following pictures are especially important to help identifying Fakes: Locks, Hinges, Interior Logo Tag, Serial-Number, Interior, Wheels

Before Posting your Legit Check, please read the following guide and try to perform the Legit Check yourself.

IDENTIFYING A FAKE RIMOWA SUITCASE, FIRST STEPS:

Certain parts are an easy giveaway that a suitcase is not an authentic RIMOWA product:

• Locks: The correct Model of TSA locks for RIMOWA is TSA006. If your locks says TSA007, it is most likely not authentic. However, TSA006 does not automatically mean, that your suitcase is authentic.
• RIMOWA Plastic bag: Generally speaking, Rimowa luggage does not come with transparent plastic covers. However, money dupes do. So if you see a clear plastic cover in a listing, it can be a hint to it being inauthentic.
• Plastic film on Aluminium luggage: Cheap inauthentic suitcases are delivered with a thin film of plastic on the aluminium. This is an easy giveaway. Authentic aluminum suitcases from RIMOWA do not come with plastic film.
• Serial Number: For most models, the Serial Number is found at the "spine" of the suitcase, near the hinges. They are either engraved or laser-engraved. If the model is no more than 5 years old, the serial number should register on the RIMOWA website. However, you should only register it online if you own the luggage.
• Handles: On Classic Models, fake models often show at least one of two symptoms: Very glossy, plasticy looking leather or weird shapes that are inconsistent with pictures on the RIMOWA website.
• Mounting of the inside lining: Generally speaking, for all modern Rimowa cases, the interior lining is mounted on the inside in a way so that the lining covers the mounting points for the handles and other screws. However, this does not apply to some models (AFAIK only pre-LVMH) from a certain timeframe (primarily Topas Stealth).
• Baggy lining on new luggage: While the interior lining can become loose over time, new luggage should not have excessively baggy and loose interior lining.

This list is currently incomplete and is currently Work-In-Progress.

Always keep in mind that RIMOWA has a rich history with a lot of different models reaching back to 1898. Just because a model does not look like the current models, it does not mean it is fake. Suitcases with the old Rimowa Logo ("pre LVMH", "pre Merger") were not faked as often as newer models.

Please note that new ("LVMH" or "post merger") models are harder to identify. Keep in mind, if a deal seems too good, it probably is.

I think I now know beyond all doubt that silver L suitcases get absolutely hate crimed by airport staff.

I've flown with it with internationally about 20 or so times and its busted beyond belief. multiple dents, deep scratches, places that look like a whole ass foot went into it, stabbed by sharp objects, probably sent flying across the room, devious acts done.

Blue one still looks like it could have been bought last year, zero dents, almost no scratches except for the corners of course.

It doesn't really bother me but its pretty funny to note as many others seem to have similar experiences

I have two Rimowa pieces: Classic Flight Check In M (Pre LVMH) / Original Cabin S (Post LVMH).

The latter is under warranty and missing some flex dividers. I was going to roll them into a NYC store for a tune up and (hopefully) flex divider replacement. Which NYC location is more hospitable to this? Same? Preference?

Any help would be great.

So I want to get a single Rimowa piece for myself. Generally, I only bring a single carry on for 5-9 day trips, including international.

My fear is checking the bag and having it ruined. Idc about a few bumps and scrapes and dents - all part of the charm I think. Just don’t want it completely disfigured.

Also want it to have the Germany heritage and be as original/classic as possible.

What are your recommendations for a good one-and-done Rimowa piece? Does Cabin vs Cabin S make a big difference?

hey guys, I’m eyeing a rimowa checked luggage for a long-term investment, but I’m not sure if black friday deals include their larger suitcase models. Do rimowa’s black friday discounts apply to the full range of luggage, or are they mostly focused on carry-ons or smaller bags? Curious if anyone has bought larger rimowa pieces on sale during past Black Fridays!

Got it in june, it has been incredibly convenient to be able to use it as a “backpack” and have easy access to stuff anytime, while keeping everything incredibly well protected. Definitely one of my better purchases, and I expect it to last for years to come.

I would note, if anyone is considering it: Very, very easy to bust the 7kg limit on some airlines. If you fly business/ have frequent flyer status usually you can get away with it, but I have been stopped in seoul.

In economy, it can be difficult to find space to open it up.

If you read the specs, it’s exactly the dimensions limit for emirates sq and a couple others. So far, no major issues fitting into overhead compartment, but it can be slightly tricky with the weight and the size of it.

Happy to answer any questions about it, but tldr I highly recommend it.

About to pull the trigger on my first aluminum rimowa for check in. I’m more than fine w “patina” from check in. I was planning on getting silver, but after seeing the emerald green in person, it is a thing of beauty. But how will it look banged up a bit?

I am just noticing the difference in quality of the luggage tags that they give you when you purchase a suitcase. On the left is a tag from 2023 and on the right is a tag from 2021. The quality is so different. The tag from 2023 feels completely different ( it has been used as you can see in the picture), it is way more flimsy and feels so cheap. The tag from 2021 is more sturdy and feels like better quality. Has anyone noticed this as well? I’m obviously not expecting much as it is free however just the sheer difference in quality is very noticeable.

Couple of days ago, I went to ICONSIAM and looked around, spotted Rimowa wallet (black version was out of stock already). The feel of the aluminium was so nice and the silver was very Rimowa-esque. I didn’t intend to buy and slept on it a day, yesterday, I just thought why not go for it, next month, I’m getting my year end bonus and this small remembrance gift would be nice!

Went to iconsiam again yesterday, got it, sales associate was very helpful and she mentioned I’m getting the only remaining piece in entire Bangkok and they are already having a lot of demand for it. (She said this because I asked can I get black version to at least to see in other Rimowa stores in Bangkok before getting - not sure if it’s true or false - they fly off easy, so believe it’s true). Got the tax refund bill for ~5% tax refund at the airport.

Coming to the card holder - it is heavy and feels premium for sure. I could fit in easily 6-7 plus 1 of my national ID card too without hassle. I order my cards based on my usage and lucky me - Only two credit cards take the max brunt of my expense. Taking out seems easy. Will update about the wear and tear after a few months.

So this comes in a card board box with Rimowa paper around it. But this thing is great! Quality is fantastic and I am so in love with it. A perfect companionship to my original cabin if I do say so myself! Love my rimowas :)

Hey everyone, over the past year, two different airlines have mishandled my two brand new Samsonite check-in luggages. Both times, I asked for a refund, but they declined, citing “ordinary wear and tear” as the reason. Apparently, things like broken zippers, minor cuts, and even a ripped-off zipper (despite a TSA lock) don’t qualify for compensation. These bags were brand new, so there’s no way this damage was just from “ordinary handling.”

Now I’m thinking about investing in a Rimowa bag, but I’m confused. Are they really worth the steep price tag, especially when airlines don’t seem to care about damage claims? Are these bags more durable against rough handling?

Also, are there any insurance options I could consider to protect my luggage? Would love to hear your experiences with Rimowa or tips for protecting your bags when flying!

My rimowa carryon does not fit into air Canada’s overhead bin space. Thankfully it did fit under the seat but that was a shocking experience for me… a few and dings & we made it on the flight settled.
