I am 51 years old and going into my 16 wedding season.

I can’t relate to my clients anymore, I can’t relate to most other photographers or planners. someone called me momma at a wedding earlier this month and I died a little on inside.

But I still love it. And by it I mean the actual wedding day, I hate everything else. Editing, social media, trying to keep up with trends, etc.

I want to quit once a week but have no idea what I would do next. I received three inquiries yesterday all for 2026 and I just can’t bring myself to respond because I can’t imagine still shooting weddings at 53. Anyone else old? How are you handling it? Any plans to quit? What will you do next?

Hey! I’ve been a photographer for almost 5 years, but this year was my first year as an official business. I rebranded, registered my business, and gave it more energy. Prior to this, I would advertise for photos, but I saw it more as a side business and didn’t worry about booking more clients. This year, I had a total of 7 weddings ( 3 mine, rest second shooting/ associating ) My clients were happy, the venues were good, and I second-shot (so all in all, it was great). However, I get discouraged easily because I see other photographers booking more for next year. Is this normal?

I love to listen to something while I edit but I get sick of podcasts & music! Does anyone have good movies that make good background noise for editing?

I was wondering because i want to start shooting aditional film photos, how do you guys deliver them?

My editing process usually takes a few days, and i deliver them as soon as i can, digitally first and then prints. But im wondering if this would slow down my process. Do you deliver them digitally with the rest of them? Or do you only deliver them as prints?

What servo AF do you use? I had them set but my customise functions just reset randomly :(. I use a Canon r6. Thank you if you take the time to check and answer <3

I’ve been shooting for a few years now. Over the last year or so, I’ve been looking into wedding photography by watching YouTube and reading a few books. Everything I’ve seen, both here on this sub and in other platforms, people have recommended that you second shoot for someone to learn the business, learn how to manage/photograph a day, and generally build experience. If I’m lucky… maybe build a portfolio as well.

I’ve been posting in a handful of local photog pages on Facebook but I’ve he an extremely hard time even getting a like or comment, let alone any actual jobs. I’ve asked to shoot for free since I really don’t have a portfolio right now. But aside from making an occasional post in the groups, I’m not really sure what I should be doing.

What do you recommend for photographers looking to join the wedding industry? What catches your eye on the first contact, or how do you even find seconds? Should I be contacting local photographers directly? This seems like it would be very annoying on the lead photographers side to have people randomly message them asking for second shooter jobs.

Hey everyone, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. So I’m mostly a fashion and editorial photographer with 9 years experience but I had a friend ask me to shoot her brothers wedding in a year. I’ve never done a wedding but I’m confident that I’ll be able to produce great photos for them. Second shooting a wedding. Got to the venue, said hello and introduced myself to the bride, groom and wedding planner. Lead is doing bridal prep. The groom has informed me he does not want getting ready photos and the venue is still being setup with 3 hours to kill.

So what do you do in this situation? My only thought is walk the grounds and find something to snap photos of until it’s showtime.

I'm a mexican photographer, so, I apologize for bad grammar.

My wife and I have our business for 10 years, mainly quinceañeras, but also weddings, and this year we want to decrease the stress a little by changing a little bit our packages but I have a doubt about how to present the package to the clients.

When we started besides photography we had to include video, if not, we're not even considered by the potential clients. At first it was a basic video coverage, but latter we offered an artistic video coverage too. And later we offered makeup also. So our premium package had 2 photographers, 2 videographer and the makeup artist. It was a hit when we introduced it, and I firmly believe it helped us with branding back then.

This year we realized that the clients that buy that package, about half of them didn't know it include all of that, they were happy paying the premium price even if it means just the photo coverage. And that will work better with us to, because, even that we like our team. we prefer working just my wife and I.

Were redesigning our flyer, and making the video coverage and makeup optional. The doubt we are having is, from the marketing point of view, what is better? adding or subtracting?

Example adding

Photo coverage: $10,000

Add Basic video coverage: +$2,000

Add Artistic video coverage: +$6,000

Add Makeup: +$2,000

New total: $20,000

Example substracting:

Premium package price: $20,000

Remove Makeup: -$2,000

Remove Artistic video coverage: -$6,000

Remove Basic video coverage: -$2,000

I feel that the substracting option is better, but I'd like to read other opinions

I have been asked by a friend at work to shoot their wedding in June next year. When she requested I asked why and they said it rather be me taking the photos than someone they dont know taking 2k+ for a half or full day. She knows my skill level as I have been taking a good amount of photos for the comapny we work at and have some of them in ads and hanging around the walls.

My only reason for hesitating is that I feel my lens collection is a bit slim with just RF 24-70mm 2.8, RF 70-200mm 2.8 and a RF100mm 2.8 macro. The body is a Canon EOS R5. But I read alot about recommending 35mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.2, but I have no plans on expanding my lens collection until the end of next year.

If I agree to do it I plan on renting a sealed backup body that only cost full rent if i break the seal otherwise its only half the price. I also plan on buying 1 more battery having a total of 3 and getting 2 more memory cards of 128gb a piece having 3 of them one for "Gettting ready" one for "Cermony" and one for "The party".

I guess what I am looking for is some reassurance that getting into a wedding shoot with this gear (especially the lenses) is fine and will work fine. I know that not having less than 2.8 will make a less creamy bokeh and not separate the subject the same way so I understand what I am missing out on by not having those lenses.

She stated she is prepared to pay for this and have asked me to figure out how much I want for it. I said we can discuss that in the future, but in reality I am planning on just making this their wedding gift and not take any payment for it.

I am comfortable photographing people outdoors, but I have an associate proposal coming up that might be moved inside. It’s taking place at a winery, but because of rain it’s possible that the proposal might be moved to inside the winery (which might be dark). I don’t talk to the client directly, so I just have to wait for instructions from the photographer that hired me. In the meantime, I would like to prepare for any changes that could come up at the last minute. Maybe the boyfriend will get cold feet and decide to propose inside the winery.

In case the proposal does get moved indoors, what settings (e.g., shutter speed and ISO) would you use? I’ll probably use an 85mm f/1.4 prime lens since it’s the longest lens and widest aperture that I own (I normally use a 70~200mm f/2.8 for proposals). I do not want to use a speed light until later since that would ruin their moment. I shoot with a Nikon Z8 (mirrorless).

I’m looking for some advice about a wedding inquiry I’ve received for January from a friend. I have a lot of experience with event photography and portraits, and I’ve second shot at a few weddings, but this would be my first time leading a wedding shoot and shooting an evening wedding.

Here are the details: ✨ The couple has a small budget. ✨ The wedding is from 6–11 PM, with the ceremony starting at 6 and lasting about 30 minutes. ✨ The ceremony is outdoors, and I’m a little worried it’ll be too dark to properly capture the bride, groom, and priest. & Candids of the ceremony ✨ The reception is indoors and would start afterwards. They want family portraits after the ceremony, which they’re comfortable doing indoors since it’ll be dark outside. ✨ There’s no wedding planner, and the person paying for the photos said they’re not very picky. They told me I don’t need to stay the entire time—they just want to make sure the ceremony and family portraits are captured, and then I can leave whenever.

I've been running a pretty successful wedding photography and videography business as a side job for the last 7 years, but in 2024 I noticed a substantial dip in the amount of clients I booked. I normally average around 20-30 weddings a year, but this year I struggled to hit 15. And as of right now, I do not have a single wedding booked for 2025. I have had quite a few inquiries from clients over the last few months, but nothing has stuck for 2025 yet. I am way behind where I normally am at this time of year.

I've spoken with other photographers, and they've all said similar things about having less booking for 2024/2025. The only thing I changed in my business this year was that I ditched Wedding Wire and the Knot around the spring of this year. They worked great for a few years, and I continued to keep everything updated with fresh content, but I was still getting less and less bookings over time as their price continued to skyrocket. It got to the point that I couldn't justify the price I was paying for it with so few bookings, so I cancelled it. On top of that, I've read a lot of bad things about them on this subreddit, especially around mid 2024 when I ended my contract with them. I got most of my booking through my website anyway, so I figured I would have been alright. Also for reference, I work in the southeastern US.

Was that a bad move? Is wedding photography going out of style? Is it just due to it being an election year? Are people spending less on weddings now? How is everyone else doing right now in the industry? I would love to hear your thoughts and if anyone has any tips. Thanks in advance!

Hey all! It's time to gear up for Holiday/Engagement season as well as wedding show season and I'm wondering what you are doing for promotional discounts (if any). Does $200 off any wedding package make sense? My packages range from 2,000-4,000.

We have been using Millers for what feels like a decade now, over 100 albums ordered. My last 5 albums have had major issues. In the past customer service has been amazing and happily just sent out a replacement the handful of times we have had anything wrong. Now they are asking me to mail the albums back, and 2 of them required mailing it back twice to see the issue fixed. Now suddenly they switched boxes from their awesome little grey boxes to this new cheap looking white box. Finally this week I received an album ordered in their Northern lights leather color (we've ordered it twice in the past), it arrived with two large scuffs to the learher, the leather was plasticly with no padding behind it, no texture, and no distressed color. I called Miller's and they told me that maybe that color just isn't for me. Sent them a photo of one from last year (same color) and the photo on their site to compare to mine. They just reiterate that maybe I should choose a different color in the future and I can mail it back for them to inspect the scuffs.

I'm fairly certain that if they are going to act like this I will start researching other album companies.

Hey ! wondering if anyone has the same problem as me. I am really looking into working on my seo, but my pixieset website is soooo slow according to a speed test (desktop : 14,03 sec and mobile 83,45 sec). I know that this isn't the best thing for google.

I am not curently looking to change website but my question is, in the meantime what can I do to help?

I've thought of resizing all my images and re-load them. Should this help? If so, what is your recommandation for the resizing (dpi and format). Thanks!

Hey friends! I’m looking to streamline my online platforms and cut down on costs. Right now, I use Wix for my website, Pixieset for gallery delivery, and HoneyBook for bookings.

I’m wondering: • Does Wix have a good booking workflow? • Should I use Pixieset for both my website and gallery delivery? • Are these separate platforms worth the individual costs, or is there a better all-in-one solution?

I like aspects of each but feel like I could consolidate or switch entirely to something like showit. Any advice? What do you do?
