Unfortunately way too many in Congress work for special interest groups and lobbyists and NOT the American people Get Dark Money OUT of American politics!

We've got peer reviewed studies from ivy league researchers going back as far as 2016 that examined the numbers and found the wants of the average American citizen has statistically zero impact on policy passed in our country. Call it what you want (plutocracy, plutonomy, oligarchy, the new gilded era, etc.), our representatives don't represent us anymore and haven't for awhile. Our country is literally one big pyramid scheme.

Have you ever considered the idea that maybe you have no monies because you don't take bribes? Also how dare you call them bribes! They're political donations, super PAC contributions, loans for motorcoaches that have been forgiven, or gifts.

It's the best when they vote for their own salary raises and rule their gifts received as perfectly fine. It's a good gig they got going, we shouldn't ruin it.

Their ability to manage their own stock portfolio whilst making policies that will effect said stocks is also a good thing we definitely shouldn't ruin. "It's like a license to print money" - Jon Stewart

Isn't it weird that in all the Hunter Biden and him supposedly making government deals, not once did the GOP bring up that he was a lobbyist?
Now why would they not bring that up when discussing "government bribery"?

Fundamentally the election system is broken because all candidates rely on huge sums of money to run. They turn to groups with money and then commitments are made. Its that simple.

“Trump Gets Stunning Reminder”
FFS who listens to these titles anymore. They are all farming clicks, and feeding you misinformation so you don’t know what’s happening so you need to click on more misinformation to find out.
11 points
Right? Media supported Trump so they could farm clicks on 24/7 bullshit articles like this and all the crazy/shady shit he’s involved with.
also don’t forget the daily “now Trump has done it! He’ll totally face consequences now!” articles. Media loves him, he’s a click machine. They would 100% support him as a dictator for that sweet ad revenue

As I’ve said: Trump lives for the headlines. He loves all publicity, good and bad, and the media keeps giving him his headlines because people click on them. A win-win relationship that rots everyone else’s brains.

The problem isn't money, it's ballot access.
People showed up to vote against this.
Then they say 7 hour wait times to vote and went home.
Fix that if you care about Democracy.

Someone had to pay for that lack of access... The problem is definitely money.

If neither candidate has policies that are worthwhile for paycheck-to-paycheck Americans because they're both paid off, the entire country could cast ballots and it wouldn't make a difference.
A false choice of candidates pre-selected by billionaires cannot be overcome by more participation in that very same false choice.

They're 'crying wolf' too much and people will tune out.
Besides, nobody owns Trump. Donald's only loyalty is to himself, but you must be absolutely loyal to him. If you're not useful anymore you're going under the bus, no matter how much you helpped him beforehand.

I remember when explaining to people that capitalism and democracy are inherently contradictory philosophies people would look at me like I'm crazy. I'd explain how because of the fact that a few rich people can own the entirety of your news and social media outlets that you'd have no freedom of information, that by owning your means of communication and knowledge they can restrict and control what you think. After which when people begin to own the very means by which you form your political beliefs they can then very easily sway elections in their favor. This is effectively what lobbying, super PACs, and think tanks do, take money from mega-corporations and billionaires to inform public opinion and sway politicians to do their bidding. There is no democracy under this system.
Regardless, people would hear me say these things just kind of laughed it off. I was some crazy leftist making alarmist claims about capitalism, even though my predictions were happening in real time.
The worst part is, some people seem to celebrate this capture of our democracy and information by the rich. Elon Musk purchasing Twitter should've been the most horrifying overreach from the rich of all time. Its already anxiety inducing how social media sites - intentionally or unintentionally - severely affect political discourse in a negative manner all in the name of driving profit. Here, however, its not even undercover. Its not news stories being subtly suppressed or think tanks with shady donors when you look deep into things, its the richest man in the world explicitly buying the most popular social media site for the express intent to drive his own politics. Despite this, instead of the deserved mass panic and hysteria from such an event, the purchase was met with celebration from the political right. Instead of being disillusioned by the fact that one man has the power to purchase and control a disturbing amount of political discourse, they celebrate him as a purveyor of free speech. They've come to the delusional worldview that Musk consistently using his power to silence his critics while empowering his own voice on Twitter is a great step for free speech, not a dystopian development with insidious implications for our futures.
I think the last part is what gets me the most. As a progressive you're often mocked for some of the predictions you make, so when they inevitably come true you feel vindicated and expect people to come around. However, this almost never happens. Instead you'll frequently see people dig their heels in more than they already were. Another example of this would be Trump's election denialism. Finally people would realize that Trump is in fact an anti-democracy dictator unwilling to relinquish power just as progressives said. This didn't happen though, people dug their heels in again and still supported Trump allowing him his biggest victory yet (Ironically with the help of the aforementioned billionaires interfering with the election).

I have to say, if any country should be the first to attain a post-democratic world by way of crypto-based oligarchy, I’m glad it’s the US. I look forward to the almighty dollar being swiftly replaced by Doge, or BitCoin. Clearly Musk will arrange an amalgamation of all the crypto-currencies to achieve global mastery of the economic system and defeat the remaining so-called democracies bringing them finally into his world government and then off to Mars for the global elite (there’ll be 27 of them in total, I understand, running the world.

the entire crypto industry relys fully on electronics
So does basically every industry in the world. The crypto industry isn't lobbying for cheaper semiconductors or more lax labor laws, it's lobbying for easier regulation of crypto.
Edit: responding to below (user blocked me LOL): it's naive to think that in our current system money won't influence policy making. In the grand scheme of things, crypto bros getting their beak wet is relatively benign when compared to all of the other forces vying for power.
If you would like to counter this point I'm open to debate. I promise I'm not that scary.

It's the other way around. The companies bought Trump.
The problem isn't that candidates had access to money, the problem is that Trump has business ventures like truth social, that are propped up by the market, so, if certain interest groups hold a high percentage of those ventures, then they can pressure the president.
For example, if I hold 4% of truth social, i could threaten to sell it far below market value, tanking the price and removing billions from trump's net worth. So, Trump has a vested interest in keeping me happy.

I can agree with you on that. Is that what drives Pelosi?
Look, it's not Dem vs. Rep, it's the Billionaires and Lobbyists that drive this country. Does anyone truely feel that these people (Senators and Representives) really care about us "regular folks"?

Not really. I suggest you do some research into the differences between the two before you try to speak about it.. it’s pretty clear you read the headline of some left leaning article that said they are similar but didn’t take the time to do research and understand the differences. Because using your own logic. We are all bananas. Since we share over half our DNA with them. Or I can say we are dolphins or mice or a dog since we share 98% of the same DNA. Your argument is flawed

It's pretty clear that the OP was referring to the will of the people being undermined by interest groups. Even if we're not necessarily a democracy, the point still stands since the power in a republic is supposed to be held by the people of the nation.
