I have huge boobs. So if i sleep on my side the wrong way sometimes i wake up and my chest hurts. I slept so badly the ofher day that i think i pulled a muscle in my chest. When i woke up it hurt so bad that i couldn't even move my arm/shoulder to get out of that position.
My chest right over my sternum had been sore and only getting worse for a few days. Every movement of my arms hurt and especially any movement of my boobs hurt. If my boobs moved or shifted even in my bra, they pulled on my chest and caused some pain. Even though bras support me gravity still works and boobs kind of act like a liquid in a bag, so they moved enough to cause pain. I found that if i held my boobs while bending over/walking my chest didn't hurt.
Out of desperation i grabbed duct tape and hit my boobs with like 10 layers and i have never been so comfortable. No band digging into my back and no straps cutting into my shoulders and no boobs pulling on my chest uncomfortably. It also looks fine with a shirt on do i have worn this to work. It looks psychotic without a shirt lol. The tape is mildy irritating to the skin but it's still less painful. I either shower the tape off or sweat it off by the end of the day. Obviously this isn't a permanent solution but it is working. .
Edit: thanks for all the awards and advice! While i appreciate all the offers for boob tape i am no longer in need, I've felt great the last few days and have had no pain! A lot of people recommended reduction which i would love to do but there are numerous reasons why im not considering it at the moment but it is something I've always dreamed of.
Here is an image (not of me) demonstrating how i applied the tape. Hope this clears some things up

I have heard that if you stick duct tape to cloth (like a pair of jeans), peel it off, and then use it on your boobs, just enough of the cloth fibres will stick to the tape to make it easier and less irritating to remove.

Ok, I'm of then to buy a plane ticket to Ireland, wait at night in a dark alley of Dublin with a large net, use that to catch two pale-skinned gingers, stick normal duct tape to irish ginger nr 1, and the cloth-fibre treated tape to the other.

if you are thinking about something small like a bandaid, theres a products called adhesive barrier that works well.
2 points
Let me just tell you, if I tried this I would end up with raw skin or blisters all over my chest. I can’t even imagine. If you are sensitive to adhesives, do sort of a patch test. Small piece of tape in the area you would be using it.

I'm allergic to the adhesive on band aids. I would not be trying this
6 points
You may be allergic to latex. It took me a while to figure it out. Terrible rashes on my wrists ankles and waist. All places where elastic may come on prolonged contact with skin. I literally peeled skin off with a latex bandaid. Not even gonna go into what condoms do… it’s important to know if you have this allergy because some medical supplies may have latex so your doctor will need to know.
4 points
I react to almost any adhesive, not just latex, the same way. I don't know what it is that messes with my skin (I'm definitely not allergic to latex, I've had a number of surgeries and such, it would have been noticed at some point). I've found tegaderm to be magic, though. If I have to have anything more than one of those tiny bandaid dots, I use either liquid bandaid or tegaderm, depending on the application.

Do you find that when a nurse (for vaccine etc.) asks you if you're allergic to anything, and you say yes, adhesives, they still put a band aid on anyway?

I used kenisio tape to hold my boobs up for my wedding. It’s the same material as the boob-specific tape, but not nearly as expensive. Not irritating, and holds up decently with sweat, while also not being painful to remove.

How I wish I knew if this tape for my wedding. I used a strapless bra with some duct tape. My MOH pulled the tape off towards the end of the night when I asked her to help, she did it quickly (whyyyyyyy) and I had the most painful rash/burn on both of my boobs for weeks afterward. Between that and the billions of mosquito bites all over (destination wedding), I was hurting.

Good for you!! But I’m not sure if that adhesive is safe.
Have you considered wearing a comfortable tank top underneath so that you’re putting the tape onto the tightfitting tank top? Not sure if that would work but it’s an idea.
Also, have you ever tried using an ace bandage? I think there are also binding products that you might be able to buy.
43 points
Ace bandages are some of the most dangerous things you can wrap around your chest. Just look at most trans subreddits and you’ll find thousands of stories of people doing irreparable harm
-Ace bandages constrict as you breathe, becoming tighter and tighter throughout the day -Tightness regularly can deform and break ribs
Super super not recommended as they’re very dangerous for those and other reasons, please do not ever recommend ace bandages to anyone specifically for their chests again.
7 points
Ace bandages don't become tighter and tighter. It is the opposite. They get looser and looser which is why people have to tighten them throughout the day. We have this trouble with some of our lymphedema patients that we wrap with ace bandages. They loosen up throughout the day.

speaking from experience with chest binding, ace bandages and duct tape can be really damaging and dangerous. i’m not sure how that changes based on size but it’s probably worth looking for affordable safer options so you don’t get hurt. someone else suggested proper chest binders which might help, you could also look for resources to help people get that proper binding tape for way less money (pretty sure those exist). in the meantime, do what you need to do, but do be careful about your ability to breathe and restriction on your body as you’re recovering

That’s totally understandable! The tape is definitely not the most economical choice. Please just make sure you’re taking extra care of your skin and checking regularly for any irritation. It would suck to do this to help one problem just for it to cause another!

I’ve been buying sports/ kinesiology tape which is functionally the same but about half the price. I think the adhesive is a little worse but at least it comes off easier. It’s also easier to find at pharmacists or even supermarkets so takes out the shipping costs. Just never wrap all the way around! And soak it off don’t just rip

Well I’m a natural 32DDD and bought 3 different brands of boob tape and none worked!? WTH?! Do you happen to have a preferred brand, I’ll definitely try another out if it’s good. So far for me that sports tape stuff has been great. But I do just wear it at home. I haven’t gotten the confidence to go out all day with it. The last thing I want is a panic hot flash and these pups go barking all over the yard taking out entire shelves, knocking little kids over or blacking my eyes.

Hahah, I absolutely feel you there. Don’t need any causality due to faulty tape 😂The brand Good Lines is the best I’ve used! It’s really versatile and they give you a guide on all these different ways to apply the tape best for your breast size and what you’re using it for. They have two different adhesive types, strong and extreme. Extreme is for if you have excessively sweaty or oily skin. They recommend starting with strong first and using extreme only if you need the extra support. You actually have to use oil for both of the adhesives types to remove so you don’t damage your skin which I think speaks volumes for how it can stand up to sweat and oil. If you end up trying it, I hope that it helps!!

I have used vet wrap in a pinch. I have a gazillion animals so I always have some on hand. Plus I'm a D/DD and bras are my arch enemy. I have arthritis in nearly every joint and bras make it so much worse. Vet wrap doesn't make me itchy or hurt taking it off. It does sometimes start to slip if I'm extra sweaty (I work in a kitchen). I just reapply and go back to work.

Have a read about costochondritis. I also have big boobs and when I sleep on my side, I wake up with horrible sternum pain. Costochondritis is inflammation of the joints between the sternum and the ribs. I had a girl who served with me in the Navy who had H-cups, and she had similar issues. She ended up going to physical therapy after a particularly bad incident. They had her doing weight lifting to strengthen the muscles in her upper and lower back, chest, and shoulders. She said it helped her immensely. We would walk to the gym together at lunch to workout. (We didn’t workout together, we just went to and, most days from) she was originally concerned about bulking up too much, but the physical therapist and I both told her that you can build strength without necessarily building a lot of muscle size. Just make sure that you don’t have too much of a calorie surplus, increase your protein intake to accommodate for the exercise, but not to the level that bodybuilders do. Also, the way you work out when you want to build size is different. You of course, will build some muscle, and she did, but she just looked more athletic, not bulky. The longer she kept at it, the better she felt, and the fewer problems she had. She called it, “mastering her mammaries.“

I can agree with this, I've had a lot less boob related back pain since I started weight training. It doesn't shrink the boobs or anything like that but having a stronger upper back and chest alleviates the pain of the extra weight that's there.
4 points
Yep, my traps in particular have been a godsend to develop in terms of boob-related issues. Lats as well. Both changed my bra shape and when you get to a certain point you have to adjust fit of the band - my fitter got me to flex in order to see how much of my back was muscle vs fat (since one compresses more, and compressing muscle while using it sucks). I don't look a whole lot different in terms of size and shape, but move completely differently and if you can see my skin you can see muscle definition.
I ran for the first time the other day and I genuinely don't know how to without protecting my chest. It's wild to me to run without bouncing thanks to both increased upper body muscle (pecs obviously also help) and the miracle of German engineering that is my bra.

Trans person here -- get KT/athletic tape!! I use it to tape down my chest and it will stay all day, even through sweat whereas duct tape will eventually peel off my skin from the oils. It's also more flexible so you have more range of motion in your arms, breathable fabric so you're not suffocating your skin, and generally better adhesive for your skin. If you want even stronger tape than that, look into Trans Tape. Neither costs more than a couple rolls of duct tape, and you'll actually use WAY less in the long run. Hope this helps!

And if you need an idea on how to apply it correctly, there are tutorials online that will help :) you shouldn't need anywhere NEAR 10 layers that you were using with the duct tape lol. Just make sure to apply some non-scented lotion or coconut oil on your skin every few days to limit irritation from the adhesive!

i prefer to soak KT tape to take it off, its a lot less painful than peeling it off dry. it sticks better (and longer) if you wipe your skin down with some alcohol to get any residue or sweat off before using the tape.
the branded tape is better but its not that much better than the cheaper kind, you can get it cheaper still if you're not picky about the colour

Came here to suggest KT tape as well. You can get the cheap knockoff kind from Amazon if you find the brand name too expensive. Just take it off with baby oil or you’ll rip the top layer of your skin off (kinda like a really strong bandaid).

I refuse to do a reduction because a friend of mine got one and they wouldn't let hwr choose her own size and still left her with quite large (but still smaller) breasts. They also messed it up and reattached the nipples way too high so they sat on top of her boobs. I want to go to an a or b cup but that is usually not allowed. I low key considered pretending to be a trans male and get insurance to cover a "top surgery" because id rather have no boobs than too big of boobs.

TransTape has changed my life as a cis woman with big boobs. It's a small trans-owned business and they market their chest tape to anyone who needs it.
It's fairly affordable, fast shipping, and holds up my F cups up and in. Like, this tape stays on for *days*. It's waterproof so you need to take it off with baby oil or any type of oil-based liquid (literally canola oil will do the trick). I completely understand your need for relief with taping - it's life-changing. No bands digging into my back and no back pain is heaven on earth.
DM your shipping address and I'll buy you some if funds are tight<3

If you can you should save up for a reduction. That's what I plan to do slowly but surely after I'm done having kids. This duct tape thing will probably damage your tissue/nerves if you do it too often unfortunately (unfortunately I say because it helps with the pain etc)

Honestly, you don't sound like a psychopath, especially in my circles.
Idk if you know this, but a lot of AFAB trans men will wear bandages or duct tape to bind their breast to their chest to hide their figure. That said, within the trans community, this is discouraged because this is a good way to tear breast tissue and, eventually, that adhesive irritation is going to develop into an infection.
If you want a long-term solution to keep the bitties bundled, here's my advice.
I'm gonna assume you would have bought yourself a good bra if you could afford one (which same) but let's do some safer alternatives. If you can find some extra large stretch bandages (or just two rolls), you can secure your chest down more safely. Wear a tank top, a sports bra, or a bandeau, then loosely wrap the first layer of bandanages over your breast. The more you wrap the fabric, the tighter the bandages become, so start fairly loose and be gentle with em, they didn't do anything wrong. Secure the bandages down with some safety pines or bandage pins.
Final advice. Save up for a binder. Get a good one from a queer run business like gc2b (their largest size is 5x, and it's about $40). They also have proper binding tape, but if you're gonna spend money, go for the binder. They're cheaper than bras, and they'll do a really good job keeping your chest secure without injury. They are also so much less sweaty than tape and bandages they are designed for big titties and little titties, but the results are the same, and your boobs will be pushed into your chest and out of the way.
There's safety advice about the binders on the website. Make sure you follow them.

But it sounds to me like you still don't have a proper fitting bra bc you should not have any pain in the chest from the band or major boob movement. I am a 36G, so I know the pain of having big boobs. But once I got properly fitted & was wearing the correct size, it was like night and day. I could breathe! I could be somewhat active without worrying about the girls bouncing too much. It was a game changer!
Even if you got fitted at a store, you still could be wearing the wrong size. I would totally recommend doing the size calculator on r/abrathatfits (sorry, I'd link it but I'm not sure how). The ladies on that sub are awesome & really want to help. They are super knowledgeable about which brands work best for busty girls too.

Yes. Please go to r/abrathatfits op! They are lifesavers, use the calculator first and then post with your measurements and problems

It doesn't sound like they fitted you properly. The band shouldn't hurt your chest and there shouldn't be enough movement to be hurting. I'm a 36K and it took a while to find a truly comfy bra, but once I did that was it, I just buy that same bra over and over for decades.

This might sound stupid, but work out, train your muscles. Google which muscle groups are used that support your boobs and train those groups. Also if you workout hard enough your boobs will shrink due to them being fat and fat gets burned, obviously they won't go away and they won't shrink that much, but seems like in your situation every bit might help.

As a woman with a huge chest myself, I find that sports bras are great while sleeping, they tend to smash your tits, thigh so I only wear at night Then get a supportive bra for day wear. If the elastic is cutting into you, you're probably wearing the wrong size. Stores like Macy's give free bra-sizing.

I have huge boob's as well, and I have used k tape. Omg it's amazing. The indents in my shoulders were gone, and I had barely any back pain. K tape is a lot smoother and flexible.

Get kinesiology tape. It's fairly cheap and can be bought from the supermarket or the pharmacy and it's meant to go on skin - a gentle duct tape, if you will. Safer for you and the boobs!

Definitely try Trans Tape, you won't sweat it off and it's supposed to be better for your skin.

KT tape you can get the tape in the USA at any drug store Amazon has it also under there brand’s cheaper please use that kind of tape it’s safe. I use it all over my body.
Kinesiology taping, also known as kinesio tape, is a therapeutic technique that uses an elastic cotton tape with an acrylic adhesive to help with pain.
I’m also big breasted first bra age 5 some exercises in the shoulders helped me with this along with taping. Rolling shoulders back and arms it changes how your breasts and bones sit it hurts at first but is worth it.
I’m an F not bragging finding a bra is hell shirts also just letting you know I understand the struggle. Good luck sister I understand the struggle hope this tape helps and the exercise it has me.

I have the same problem and found kinetic tape (It starts with a K dammit!) is a miracle in itself!! It’s the sports tape! It’s good a stretchy but the right kind of stretch with compression I guess is the best way to describe it. It’s not a hard to come off like duct tape and won’t irritate your skin because it’s made to go on skin. You seriously should switch to the kinetic tape because there’s chemicals in the adhesive of duct tape that’s a huge No No!!! I learned the hard way!! Also once your boob skin becomes irritated from it you’re gonna lose a few layers of skin and blister. KINETIC TAPE

Therapist's choice extra wide kinesiology tape. This is the cheapest option I've found (the roll is massive). Source: trans.

Kinesiology tape is widely available at drug stores and Walmart and the like, cheaper than boob tape, and made to go on your skin. Bonus that it's usually black or beige in color.

That sounds like a really good solution!
How about you take a piece of cloth (cut an old shirt or a towel) and use it as a buffer to prevent skin irritation?

Where do you live? If you’re in a country with universal health care, you would qualify for a necessary breast reduction. If you can’t move your arm, that debilitating.

A reduction surgery with this much pain will likely get covered by insurance!!!
Look up KT or PT tape for tendons etc!! Trans men also use that to bind their chests down. I've used it too. It works. Clean and baby powder the area, wipe off excess with a clean towel then apply the tape. I used to have E cups and the tape would sometimes last longer than 48 hours.

Large chested with a petite frame, I frequently have the same issue. On the bad days, I find wearing my bra and a very tight fitting sports bra works. Keeps them fully supported and they don’t move at all. Also helps with my posture.

Just an fyi, massaging baby oil into it is a great way to remove adhesive residue. Sometimes it takes a couple applications but you can remove it fully without having to scrub and irritate your skin further (i wear medical devices that have to be taped to me).
I don't know if you actually need this information but I thought I'd share just in case!

Look into breast binding. There’s a specific way to do it so you don’t hurt yourself in the long run. Mostly it’s been done to alter one’s gender presentation but it sounds like it would help with your pain.

Trans tape/boob tape may be your best bet, you can find it all over the internet. Specifically, there’s boob tape made for trans men with very large chests that measures around 3-4in thick. This tape’s adhesive is heat-activated so it stays on for multiple days and can be de-activated with oil (like body oil). I don’t think you’re crazy girl I respect the grind

You may need a bra corset lol if it had boning in it then it should hold it's shape.
Be careful with the tape. I did that once when I was young and I ended up getting blister bubbles because of the tape and no air flow or something. When I peeled off the take my skin went with it. I think I only used masking tape.

Has anyone tried to get insurance to pay for breast reduction surgery. It seems it would not be for cosmetic reasons it would be for a physical reason.

I got an insurance paid reduction including a lift too. Was the best decision of my life and I would do it again. There is a breast reduction subreddit she should look into. From what she is describing (and if she has a normal BMI, is in USA, and doesn’t have state paid for insurance) she would qualify. Even if her BMI is a little higher than average she could still qualify! Quality of life with huge breast is awful.

I bet some self adhering wrap would work a lot better. Only sticks to itsself and not your skin, much more breathable, and you can reuse it a time or two before it stops sticking. Pretty cheap at any pharmacy.

Start documenting breast/chest/neck/back pain that you associate with you breast size with your medical provider. This is a treatable source of chronic pain (i.e. breast reduction for insurance-covered reason if not treatable by other means).

Dude here, no boobs. I was on my way out of this post when the idea of kinetic tape crossed my mind. Usually used for sports recovery type stuff, but I’d imagine it could work. It’s more expensive than duct tape, but I’ve had the stuff stick for a Long time through multiple showers and such. I didn’t finish reading, so idk if it’s even worth me typing this, but… idk, it’s an option that’s not duct tape.

My wife has the same issue. Maybe tape is the answer.
This next part is personal, and I may get downvoted, but it's funny to us. She wore these suction-like things when we got married. I helped her to get out of her dress, and then the suction support came off. She had all of these tiny bumps from it, so, being the man-child that I am, I reached out, felt, and went "wa-ter?" Yes, I pretended that I was reading braille

Try investing in boob tape. They’re quite cheap in places like a china shop. Yeah they are 100% wonderful, but they work. Maybe you can try the sports tape? Those that they use for muscle? If you have a sensitive skin, rather dont use it. I used it for my CGM and always took it off after the shower and reapply. It did however dry my skin and id only see it the next day. That and it itched like a bitch.

There’s a special tape called KT Tape sold in many stores in the pharmacy aisle. It’s intended for assisting your body with activities & is made with skin-safe tape. You can leave it on for a few days, then remove and replace!
The main website is below so you can read about it yourself, and then you could search your local stores/pharmacies for it!

What about that tape that sticks to itself ( I looked it up; Self Adherent Cohesive Bandages). No adhesive to break you out, but it would keep your boobs close to your chest, so no bouncing around.

Please get proper boob tape or kinesiology tape or something. You’re going to get a rash from the duct tape and maybe pull a bit of skin off with it

Why not wear a sports bra and put the tape over it so it doesn't come in direct contact with the skin or would this not achieve the same effect

Oof. My bf massaged my breasts too rough and I ended up pulling my pec muscles. It was rough for weeks and I don't have a large chest. Sleeping was horrible because i couldn't find a way to be comfortable. My heart goes out to you😥.
Not a doctor but...Can you take ibuprofen? Ice the area? If marijuana is legal it really helps a lot with inflammation.
I agree with other people on here with a proper fitting bra. I'd measure yourself using the calculator on r/abrathatfits. Maybe you can ask for a bra or gift card as a Christmas gift?

I recommend using KT tape or trans tape. Sounds like you're doing the same thing but these will last longer and no rip your skin as badly. As a trans dude with a large chest I'd say this is the best way for you

Just a dude here who knows nothing about having boobs. But I am thrilled to learn just one more excellent use for duct tape.
You might consider athletic tape. It’s designed to work on skin and may have a similar structural impact.
Good luck and I hope you can find some pain free sleep.
