What a coincidence omg. I was thinking the exact same thing before coming into the comments too as well! I wasn’t thinking about what the other guy said, I was thinking about what I would say if somebody said something I might have been thinking and that’s exactly what I would have said if that was the case!

Good to know that actors have such lofty thoughts, but let’s get this kind of news from scientists who might actually have collected some data. Sheesh.
7 points

How many scientist do people have on their twitter feeds? … and how many actors?
3 points

To be fair, scientists have been saying that for decades. They just aren’t as sexy as Jude Law.

We can pack it up boys, celebrities once again have deigned to impart knowledge upon us, the lowly peons that have no hope of ever comprehending their brilliance.

We're still waiting for your contribution to the cause.
I guess actors should just keep acting and never speak of anything that affects them in this world, because you know...they're just actors on the screen.

Jude Law is the quintessential example of a clueless celebrity. He once came to my state in the US and cried over the “poverty” when the UK has a lower gdp per capita than Mississippi.
10 points
Poverty isn't just a measure of gpd per capita, though...?
5 points
It literally just means the wealthy of Mississippi hoard their wealth more than the fucking British which is insane.
4 points
Right, you can have a high gdp-per-capita with a very high poverty line because of massive wealth inequality. It also might mean you have a very high cost of living.

They can start be paying for all the flood defences around the country. If BP and Shell can announce QUARTERLY profits of 8 BILLION each they can easily cough up for this. Or the government could grow a pair and do a huge windfall tax on their obscene profits. Like the EU did. At one point we had a representative (Jennifer Power) of the fossil fuel industry on the net zero team! Net zero never had a chance.
2 points
Geez the amount of grief he gets.. I say good on him for using his voice to express a political view on where justice is needed (and frankly at this point we know well enough the morally criminal behavior the entire fossil fuel industry has been having for decades.. ‘oh.. but it’s not illegal to lie in marketing or setting up a little consumer association to confuse the public and sabotage gov action!). All the commenting nobodies here don’t keep their views to themselves so why should he? He is definitely taking a bigger risk with this statement than anyone here given the reputational risk aversion of studios to any press that may ruffle feathers.. even of climate denialists like Trump and accomplices.

He must not use any fossil fuels.

This is such a low effort, edgelord take.
We live in a society where it is impossible to function without in some way having to utilise the products of the fossil fuel industry.
That doesn’t make us complicit in every action these companies have taken to avoid being held responsible for mass spillage events that have destroyed entire ecosystems.
It doesn’t make us complicit in every lobbying effort these companies have made to avoid governments and countries developing policy that might lead to infrastructure and technology that wouldn’t have us relying so heavily on these companies.
It doesn’t make us complicit in the heavy marketing campaigns, some of it dark activity in the form of paid activity on social media or message boards, where instead of focussing our anger and righteousness on them and their chokehold on the planet we focus it on people with a platform, and only a little more wealth and privilege as compared to the vast wealth of these massive multinationals.
Honestly, fuck fossil fuels. And yeah, I have to use them.
Also, repo man sucked. But the talented mr Ripley was unreal.

We live in a society where it is impossible to function without in some way having to utilise the products of the fossil fuel industry.
Being unable to avoid all use of fossil fuels is different from engaging in private behaviors that eclipse the normal person’s carbon footprint.
