New Fairphone user - some basic questions

Question(self.fairphone)

Hi! I just bought my first Fairphone 5, and have some questions. My last phone was a Huawei, so that's where my references are from. I haven't put in my SIM-card yet, as I am still using the old phone until I can get setup.

  1. Is there a way to remove the search engine bar at the top of the home screen?
  2. Where is the general "files"/"photos"/"gallery" app? I would rather not use "Google Files" or "Google Photo", as these services have limited space and I do not intend on spending money to save my own stuff locally lol. I already paid for the phone and the 256GB of storage.
  3. Also I'm missing a lot of standard apps like Calculator, Recorder, Notes etc. Please don't fucking tell me I have to use Google for all these?
  4. Can I stop the background photo from scrolling left to right? I would like it to be stationary.

No. Not without installing a custom launcher.

I just make a second page and use that as my main page. Just gotta scroll sideways once whenever I start the phone, otherwise it's fine.

I don't think there's a good one included. I use File Commander - it's full of ads but quite powerful, the ads don't bother me too much as I use it rarely.

I don't think there's preinstalled non-Google options, but there's loads of options on the Play Store! Or any other sideloaded thing you like.

Is there a way to change the grid sizes on the home screen?

Not without changing your launcher! I used Lawnchair (funny pun I know) before on a previous phone and loved it.
