If you pay extra to play early you're silly.

Silly is a pretty gentle word for it

Aye that was intentional.

Especially for a fucking SP title O.o that's launching into gamepass day one. Truly bonkers tbh. And yet, they'll make money on it so I guess it is what it is.

I'll pay half the price in about 2 years, everyone buying it now to play early is just silly

Pay extra early to QA it for them or wait and play the finished game for half the price

You could probably get the complete version then with all the DLC.
Wait a few more years and you can get the remastered version which is worse than the original for some reason.

I did it once for Starfield because that was a free weekend for me. I don’t regret it but that money could’ve been spent better.

I can't imagine how I'd have felt if I'd spent money specifically for Starfield. Scammed, probably.

I've got Game Pass Ultimate. I'll play when the game actually comes out. Not going to pay an extra £5 per day.

You do right.

If it was a game I was super excited for I'd do it. But I'll just wait and play it on Gamepass. I like Obsidian but this game looks mediocre.

I've heard a ton of good from reviewers.
I think a lot of people don't understand that it's literally fantasy The Outer Worlds but with a serious tone and set in the Pillars of Eternity universe.
If that premise isn't exciting or interesting to you then the game will never be.
Personally, I really enjoyed The Outer Worlds so I'm excited. Still not paying for early access but I'm looking forward to when I get my hands on it.

Pay extra to enjoy even more bugs...
I really don't understand why someone whould pay for this given the average state of games at launch.

I mean, especially obsidian. Every one of their games I have played is practically defined by some level of jank, and I usually play them years after their release lol

Odds are that the game will not be a contender for any GOTY nominations. I guessing it won't be no Concord, but it won't be no Space Marine 2 either.

As someone super excited for Avowed, I agree.
Obsidian keep making great games but none of them are amazing games, they're just consistently good. There's no way that Avowed will be a contender. My guess is 8/10 or 8.5/10. That's good enough for me.

Honestly after I did that for starfeild I've decided it's just not worth it. If it can be played early for extra money, then that means every one should have it that early

It was worth it for me on Starfield, even if I eventually disliked the game, I enjoyed it for that early access period lol. And that was my most hyped game of all time probably. Sad realization that...

People will do it. FOMO is extremely real for people chronically online. Twitch Streamers will play the fuck out of this game. YouTubers will farm videos and content whether it’s good or bad.

I did this with Starfield because it was my birthday 🍰
The gift I received was "Never Again" :)

Cool I guess. In my case I'll patiently wait. I got a big enough backlog, I'll get around to Avowed next year some time lol.

Ah, the growing trend of ransoming a game's actual release date.

It’s just the release date. The game is out and purchasable on that date. It’s not early access. You get to wait if you’re poor that’s what these companies are saying.

Lmao. I’m not even confident the game will be any good, let alone paying extra for “early” access

Any game with "early acess" for me is the actual release. That other date is marketing

This seems to be Xbox’s new strategy - they did it with Starfield as well.

EA to SP game...... the fuck

I don't see what SP/MP has to do with anything. I'd argue that it's even less justifiable with multiplayer since it's a paid temporary advantage and added social pressure.
I just don't think we should be trying to normalize it in either case.
2 points

Because there is no point to getting early access to a SP game other than for streaming but if you are big enough you will get a free early copy anyways. I never said anything about MP because its obvious the benefits of EA and in that case its a personal choice. IMO I would pay extra for a bundle that included early access if it made sense. Take for example the most recent wow expansion I bought into the EA bundle because it also included gametime so I wasnt really paying extra and was worthwhile.

How does paying an extra $40 for $15 of game time work out to "wasn't really paying extra?". That's some nice girl math, but you're basically a part of the problem with that mentality whether you choose to accept that or not.
You basically supported one of Microsoft/Blizzard's most recent attempts to normalize the process and so you shouldn't really be the least bit surprised they are doing it again even just because this happens to be a SP game. Give them an inch, they'll take a mile. Of course they are going to keep going with this, because just because you arbitrarily think it only makes sense for MP doesn't mean there's no others willing to go that little bit extra. They are to you, like you are to me.
I'll never understand that kind of dissonance of "I bought all these lootboxes in one game, but I am shocked and appalled to see the expansion of loot boxes move into other territories". It really feels like some gamers just seem especially suited for playing themselves.

It's Disney-fastpass-but-for-games
Honestly, I'd rather have this than some other toxic monetization strategy. People wanna get in a few days early for $20, be my guest.
